Specification of Letters Pa'eent.
gagnent-ien led August 1.7, 191e. Serial No, 25M-25e.
To di whom may concwn Bedin known that i, Benini, Goin? e citizen of the United States, residing :it liiilville7 in the conniby of Cinnbei-innd, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Dietribnter for Coinniinnted ci' nlveiulent Fuel., of which the following is a. specificetion.
My invention reineee ee e device for dis'. tiibnting oonnninnted or pniveiulent iinei in e furnace, :ind consiste of .e 'novel construetion of the sinne, and appurtenances connected therewith whereby the is caused to be consumed inoe perfectly and there is en intensification of the heet resulting therefrom.
The invention is satisfactorily' illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the iinpoiimnt inszi'innenmlities thereof may be varied,V and so it o be understood time the invention is noirJ limited to the specific deinils sl'ion'n and described, :is iong :is eliejy' are wie in 'the :spirit or scope of he claims.

Fig. er, represente a horizontal section on line l--i Fig.
Fig. 5 i'epi'esenes fi eection similar to Fim i showing the addition tlieieto of steam snpplying pipee.
Similar nnnieinls of' inference indicate ooi'- iesponding parte in the figures.
Referring to the drawings# l designates e steam boilei, and 2 designates the casing tiiei'efoi. 3 deeignnies the ini-nece fors the lioile'; end designates tine 'bridge wnllmx'vliicli' 'ennreg of eiienselvesi being nell known in the are,

Wiiiiin the furnace ie the diseribntei 8 for the fiiel, 'the sinne consisting oz the vertically arranged mein side 'deectoi'e 9 foi'med' of plates on Whose terminals 'are sleeves in which ae ited the vertically extending when 10, the 'upper end lowei ende ci' the leiter bein. secured in oneninffe in else walls' i. A t
between them the 12 which ere open at their opposite ende eo met their inner ends receive the fnel directed io the sinne, and their outer o1' side ende diseiinige the f-nel into the furnace.
The deiieotors ne 'alle inner eerniinnl of.
the distribnei are united nt. their iol-Werd ends'forining :in auxiliary -slinped ineinbeipreserving, however, the pesenges 12 at', the -i'ig'ln and lei't of the same.
ln the clnlie 6 is the nozzle 1B with n'liieli is, connected the pipe 1+i, the lncieibeing nir tnolied to the casing oi' n v1oii'ming eppeintns 15, whereby nii may be dii'eated from the lntteij tliz'ongii the pipe M. inio the nozzle '13, and injected from the attei through the @linie 6 into the dietriontei` boi;g it coing evident that the coniniinned oi' pnlveinient fuel' entering the chute from eine liepper will be engaged by the blast of nir and so be blown fox'ebiy int-o seid distibw ter box, the fnel "when, owing to the deflecois, will ne discharged tiiionggli the pee Sagen i2 into 'elle furnace in somewhat disintegrated condition, witlionimpacting or wetting, nndso it is supplied loose to the furnace.
The distribntei box is Snii'onnded et the top and bottoni "ny the weten jecieeee or need ex-Si which are conneced. with. *die Walde ll of the former, sind jackets orc iienders being in eoinninnicnion by the mines or' fines l0, one of the jnckes having n. snp ply pipe i7, and the other fincket having e disciieige pipe i8, it being evidenizne't. innning Water may iow tln'ong'ii eine. jeokets and iubee 'to prevent burning-oni; of fne S.
-nteiing the furnace ehe noezie 19 oit the pipe 2G, the letter being; in eonnnunicetion with e source supply oi not nifwhici: is forcibiy injected into the fin-nece and directed above elle grate thereof, if; being seen Cit that l employ a bed of large hard coal ou the `grate and supply the comminuted or pulrerulcnt fuel over 'said bed in the loose condition stated, the hot air serving also to blow apart or disintegrate said fuel t0 a greater extent and supply the `fuel with said hot air, whereby the combustion of the fuel. is carried on to a greater extent and so rendered more perfect, highly intensifying the heat thereof.
In Figs. l and 5 I show the employment of pipes 2l to admit steam to the distributing boX, the steam commingling with the fuel and so serving to. increase combustion and the further intensification of heat resulting fron-1 the steam.
It will be seen that the deiiectors 9 while being preferably curved, shown, extend in radial directions from about the center y of the distributer laterally 'outwardly therefrom, consequently the fuel directed into the intervening passages 12' is blown in various streams into the space of the furnace, effectively lilling the saine, and is so agitated and aerated that it will be in somewhat loose condition therein over the bed of coal, its combustion. thus bein accelerated, producing a high degree of heat as is evident.
I find that it is advantageous to place a bed of large hard coal on the grate, and when it is burning the pulverulent fuel is introduced over the same, whereby the fuel is more rapidly consumed by the gases of boththe hard coal and its own, thus elfecf tively burning the fuel and economizing in the quantity of consumption of the latter.
The defiectois arey secured to the plates orw Walls 11 by beingl preferably cast with the same,`and they are separate from the tubes or flues 10, so that when the deflectors, and plates require removal theyinay be drawn vont of the furnace and fresh ones Substispaced apart forming passages for the travcrse of the fuel therethrough and the discharge of the saine in loose condition in various directions into thc furnace, a supply hopper adapted to discharge into said chute and being in communication'with said passages, a chute leading from said hopper into said distributor, and an air supplying dcvice` intermediate of saidpassages and hopper also in communication with said passages and yterminating` in a nozzle disposed in -said chute.
2. In a distributor for comminuted or pulver'ulent fuel for use .in a furnace, deflect/ors, supports therefor. said defioctors beingv spaced apart forming passages for the trav erse of the fuel therethrough and the discharge of the same in loose condition in va rions directions into a furnace, a supply hopper in eonnuunication with said passages, and a conductor for hot air adapted to enter a furnace intermediate of the grate of the furnace and said deflector.
3. In a distributor for comminuted or pulverulent fuel for use. in a furnace, detlectors,
- supports therefor. said deflectors being separatedforming passages for the traverse of the fuel therethrough and the discharge of the Sallie in loose condition in vario-us directions into the furnace, a supply hopper in comuiunication with said passages, aconductor for hot air adapted to enter a furnace interinediateof the grate thereof and said detlectors'and a conductor for steam adapt-- ed to enter .the furnace and connnunicat-e with said passages. v
4. Ina distributer for comminutcd or pul-` verulent fuel for use in a furnace, deflectors and supporting plates therefor, said deflectors being` fitted' between said plates and spaced apart forming passa-ges for the traverse therethrough of the fuel, and water jacketson said plates, thelatter being connected by tubular members which are in communication with said jackets and permit water to flow' fromI one lo the other.
ln a distrilniter for eomminuted or pulvcrulent material for use in a furnace, spa-ced apart delectors, top and bottom plates, sleeves on said deflectors, and connections passed through said sleeves and having their ends secured to said top`and bottoni plates.
