To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HARVEY A. MAILLOUX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of lVlassachusett-s, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Time-Controlled Furnace-Regulators, of which the. following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. This invention relates to means for operating the drafts and check dampers of stoves, furnaces and like heating constructions, and particularly to a time-operated device of this character.
The general object of this invention is to provide a very simple mechanism for the purpose of automatically closing the check damper or door of a furnace and automatically opening the draft door of the furnace by means of a clock.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which may be easily applied to all furnaces having checks and draft doors, and which is extremely simple in construction and easy of operation.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an elevation of a furnace showing my improved draft regulating mechanism applied thereto and partly broken. away; and
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the draft eontrolling mechanism showing the trigger 11n latched, the parts being broken away.
Referring to these drawings, 10 designates a furnace such as is used for heating houses and provided with a draft door 11 and mounted upon the furnace or heater is a pivoted arm 12 connected by a chain 13 to the draft door and operatively connected to a draft check or damper 14. These parts are of any ordinary or suitable construction, it being understood, of course, that the arm 12 carries a weight 15 which acts to lift the draft door 11. and close the check damper 14.
Mounted upon a shelf or other support 16 which may be suspended from the ceiling is a brace 17 which may be disposed between the shelf 16 and the pivoted arm 12, so as to support the latter against the action of the weight 15, in which position the door 11 will be closed and the check 14 will be opened. Attached to the extremity of the brace 17 is a cord 18 which extends over a pulley or through an eye 19 and to the end of which is attached a weight 20. This weight. rests upon a suspended shelf 21 which is pivoted .at 22 and which is held in a raised or weight supporting position by a trigger or latch 23 pivoted in any suitable manner, as upon a depending rod 24:. This depending rod supports a shelf 25 having thereon an alarm clock 26 of any usual or suitable character and illustrated as provided with the alarm sounding clapper 27. This clapper is connected by a cord 28 to the trigger 23.
At night, when it is desired that the cheek shall be opened and the door 11 closed the arm 12 is raised and the brace 17 is disposed between the arm and the shelf 16 or other support for the brace. The pivoted shelf 21 is raised and latched by the trigger 23 and the weight 20 is rested on this shelf. The clock, of course, is set so as to sound an alarm at any desired time, as for instance at seven oelock in the morning, and when the alarm goes off the vibrations of the clapper 27 will, through the cord 28, withdraw the trigger from its engagement with the shelf whereupon the weight 20 will fall pulling on the cord 18 and pulling the brace out from beneath the arm 12 whereupon the arm 12 will drop under the weight 15 and open the draft 11 while closing the check damper.
It is obvious that by this means, heat can be checked at night when the heat is not needed and released at any time desired in the morning without the necessity of any one manually opening the draft and closing the check. It will further be seen that the device can be manufzu-tured and sold at a small price and that it may be readily installed. It will be seen that the device may be removed at any time and that it may be readily applied to any form of heater as it is not part of the heater itself. There are no springs, or other mechanism to get out of order. V
I claim 1. The combination with a heater having a draft door, a. check, and a pivoted arm connected at one end to the draft door and at the other end to the check, the arm being provided with a weight tending to close the check and open the draft door, of a releasable brace adapted to be disposed beneath the arm to hold it supported, a weight connected to said brace to pull it from beneath said arm, a pivoted shelf upon which said weight normally rests and holding it from downward movement, I trigger engaging the shelf, and a clock having its alarm mechanism operatively connected to the trigger to release it at a predetermined time 1 to athereby sreleaseithel shelf and permit the downward movement of the weight. and ,the release of said brace.
