To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILLIAM Rornnnnnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Kisco, in the county of Vflestchester, State of New York, have 1nvented a new and useful Mortar-Mixing Box or Tray; and I do hereby declare the following to. be a full, clear, and exact. description of the invention, such as Wlll enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved mortar mixing box or tray, and :an object of the invention is to provide a simple, eflicient and improved construction of box or tray of this kind in which mortar an the like may be mixed. 1

A further object of the invention is to provide a box or tray of this kind constructod of sections of sheet metal, there being improved and practical joints between the sides, ends and the bottom, whereby a thorough reinforced box or tray is provided, and whereby said parts may be easily united and made practically water tight.

A further object of the invention is to provide an easy knoolcdown and put-together mortar mixing box or tray, and one which is minus of soldering and bolt and rod securing means, and also in which rivets are unemployed in securing the parts together.

A further object of the invention is to provide an in'iproved knock-down mortar mixing box or tray, in which the parts are secured together by clench flange joints.

In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.

In the drawings Figure 1 is'a view in perspective of the improved mortar mixing box or tray constructed in accordance with the invention.

showing one side and an end in the act of being inserted or connected to the bottom.

Referringmore especially to the drawings 1 and 2 designate the twosections of the bot tom of the mortar mixing tray or box. These sections are elongated, and substantially rectangular in cross section. The inner edge of the section '1 has :a flange 3 extending downwardly and bent at 1 to form a longitudinal channel 5, which re ceives the longitudinally extending downwardly protruding flange 6, thereby connecting the two sections. .The outer longitudinal edges of the sections 1 and2 terminate in downwardly extending flanges 7, which are bent upon themselves as at S, to form the channels 9. channels are bent upon themselves as at 10 to provide longitudinally extending exterior reinforcing or strengthening flanges 11, to reinforce the outer walls of the channels. The end parts of the sections 1 and 2 terminate in flanges 12, which are bent upon themselves as at 13 to form channels 14, which also have their outer walls bent at 15 to provide reinforcing flanges 16. The flanges 11 and 16 are flat against the exterior surfaces of the outer walls of the channels, so as to strengthen the walls as before stated. The longitudinal side pieces 17 have their lower edge portions received closely and tightly in the channels 9. The ends of the longitudinal side pieces are bent upon themselves as at 18, to provide or form The outer walls ofthe the vertical channels 19. The end pieces 20 of the mortar mixing box or tray having their lower edge portions received in the channels 1 1, so as to closely and tightly fit therein. These channels are inclined so as to hold the end pieces 20 correspondingly inclined as shown. The ends of the end pieces 20 are provided with lateral flanges 21, which are received in the channels 19, closely and tightly fitting therein. The upper portions of the side and end pieces are provided with overhanging angular flanges 22. The end parts of the flanges 22 of the end pieces 20 terminate in right angle extending lugs 23, which overhang the end parts of the side pieces, that is the end parts that have the channels 19, thereby reinforcing the side pieces, and also strengthening and preventing distortion of the inner walls of the channels 19. The side pieces have bolted, soldered or otherwise secured thereto handles 24. In order to disassemble the mortar mixing box or tray, the end pieces are first removed by pulling them upwardly. An upward pull is then imparted on the side pieces, and subsequently the two sections of the bottom may be disconnected by sliding them lengthwise, one in one direction and the other in the opposite direction. The parts of the mortar mixing box or tray may then be arranged one upon the other and wrapped together in any suitable manner (not shown) for shipment or for storage. The joints between the bottom sections, side and end pieces are to be tight and secure so as to be watertight.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A metallic mortar mixing box comprising a bottom formed in two sections so as to form a longitudinal reinforcing rib, one of said sections having its edges bent so as to form substantially'right angled flanges having channels therein, the other section being provided on its ends and one longitudinal edge with substantially right angled flanges having channels therein and its other longitudinal side having a right angled flange adapted to engage in the channel of one of the longitudinal edge flanges of the other section, side and end pieces having their ends and sides provided with channel and flange connections with each other and having their lower edges disposed in the channels of the right angled flanges of the bottom around its outer edge, said right angled channeled flanges of the bottom being adapted to rest upon the ground when the mortar box is in use and the centrally disposed longitudinal flange preventing the flexing of the bottom when mortar is being mixed in the box.
