Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE H. MER IN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Toys, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys and especially to that class of toys which are also adapted to be used for advertising purposes.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical form of toy which includes a relatively large wheel which may be rolled along on the ground by a child, and a supporting handle whereby the toy may be manipulated, and 'further to design it in a way which will allow suitable advertising matter to be placed thereon in an attractive manner and so as to be readily seen and read by the public. 1

WVith these and other objects in view the invention resides and consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claim may be resorted to without departure from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Referring in detail to the characters of reference marked upon the drawing 5 represents the main body portion of the wheel,

which in practice is preferably formed of wood, and for ordinary uses would be made of inch stock and out about twelve inches in diameter. This wheel is provided with a central hole 6 and upon each side is attached a disk 7 that may be fastened in any suitable manner as by means of tacks 8. These disks are also provided with central holes that register with the central hole in the wheel so as to accommodate the special form of hub members 9 of which there are two, the same being placed in position on opposite sides of the wheel so that the inner cylindrical portion of each will project slightly into the hole of the wheel, leaving a small annular central pocketlO within the hole and between the two end portions of the hub members and the spindle. This pocket may be filled with grease so as to oil the bearings between the said hub members and the spindle 11 extending therethrough.

The handle 12 is preferably formed of wood and of a suitable length and has its lower end portion seated in a socket 13 of the forked member 14. This fork as will be noted serves to straddle and accommodate the wheel and is provided with holes 15 in its lower end portions to accommodate the spindle 11 before mentioned. In practice the end portions of the spindle are headed to secure the same in position and in a manner to rotatively support the wheel together with its hub caps between the forks and upon the spindle and so as to permit it to freely tu-rn therein when brought in contact with the ground and shoved alongthroughthe medium of the handle.

Upon the outer faces of the disks 7 I apply my advertising matter which is preferably painted thereon and may be in the form of reading matter, illustrations of animals, or other kinds of pictures.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
