Description
METHOD UFFO t1 lili 1 Tacit whom it may concern; I
I Be it known that l, EDOUARD HAMn'LrUs, a subject of the French Republic, residing at 55 Rue Curiol, Marseille, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in ll/lethods of Forming Sand lFoundry-Cores and Substance for 'Use Therein, of which the following is a specification.
Linseed oil is used in glomeratlng whlte sand. a
lln order to give'consistency to cores it is foundries for agnecessary. to previously add various ingre dients such as flour, resin, dextrin and the like, to the send but in spite of such precautions the mixtnre'obtained possesses only slight cohesion which prevents such cores thus molded in sand from being handled and prevents their safe removal from the mold box without causingdeformation, more par ticularly when it is a question of recessed or grooved pieces of a certain size.
In order to facilitate the setting of the mixture it has been necessary to use linseed oil boiled in combination with flour but the cores thus obtained are hardly more cons1st-- ent and do not resist high pressures and the cast metal penetrates thereinthrough the interstices produced by reason of the combustion of the particles of flour. p
This invention has for its object to obviate these disadvantages.
By this invention a carefully selected agglomerating liquid is intimately mixed with the sand by repeated-siftings whereby each grain of sand is brought into contact with the air in order to facilitate the absorption EDUU em Specification of ltetters I-atent.

any framing to be dispensed with and thus greatly facilitating the rnolding of the recessed or, grooved parts of all dimensions while resisting during the casting the strongest pressures and the highest tempera tures.
what l claim is:
l. A mastic liquid for agglomerating white sand used for foundry cores composed by adding a small proportion of litharge to boiled linseedoil.
2. A method of making foundry salnd cores consisting in repeatedly sifting the sand with an admixture of boiled linseed oil containing a small proportion of litharge.
