STANLEY WBONSKI, orfotnvnmmn, onto.
INFANT-ROCKER. 1 f
Specification of Letters fatent. Patntd J fil y 1, 1919,.
Application filed March 14, 1919. seiiarno. 282,571.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a rocker which may be used by. either one or two persons in a safe and agreeable manner, parts being so arranged that the lower limbs maybe eitherentended horizontally outward or downwardly, in the manner of sitting, at will.
A further obJect is to; 1 provide means whereby one of the seats of the rocker may be firmly secured when in an operative posi-.
tion, locking devices for that purposebeing supplied.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which i Figure 1 is aside elevational view showing a childrens rocker made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View thereof.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View taken substantially through the center of the rocker.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view similar to Fig. 2, but showing one of the seat elements in raised position, and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional View showing the locking means by which the folding or movable seat is held in position.
Referring to the drawings, the invention is seen to be comprised of a pair of symmetrically formed rockers 10, curved equally upward at both ends 11, and secured together by rigid cross-bars 12, forming a secure foundation for a seat frame 14, fixed on top of the raised standards 15, extending directly from the upper portion of the rocker elements.
Fixed at the ends of the frame 14 are a plurality of cylinderical rungs or bars 16, the same being inclined slightly outward, and connected at their upper ends by arouately bent connecting backs 17, which may be provided at their front ends 18, with eyes 19 for the attachment of straps or securing means 20, whereby an infant may be secured uponthe seat element 21,.formed integrally with the frame 14.. i
In the frame 14 is an elongated opening 23 having curved ends 24 and 25 in which is pivotally engaged, by the transverse pins 27,
a folding seat 28, adapted, when used as a seat, to partially cover the opening 23, the seat at that time resting upon a cross strip 30, secured below the end 24 of the opening 23 to the lower side of the frame 14.
A projection 32 extends outward from the seat 21, thesame being engageable in a recess 33, formed in the movable seat 28, and set in the seat element .21,is a cylindrical metalliccasing 35, having a flanged outer end 36, the casing containing a slidable plunger 37, adapted to enter arecess 38, ex
.mtending inward from the recess 33, when the plunger is in an outward position. This plunger is normally drawn toward the bottom ofthe casing, due to the pull of a ten sion spring 39, attached respectively to eyes 40 and 41, one being secured to the bottom of the casing 35, while the other eye is attached to the inner end of the plunger 37, thereby holding the plunger normally re tracted.
In order to project the plunger, so as to hold the seat 28 when extended across the opening, a .rod 44 is passed transversely through theseat element 21, the inner end of the rod being rigidly engaged with a lever 45, carrying at its outer end a pin 46,
engageable with a transverse slot 47, formed in the plunger. The outer end of the rod 44 has a T shaped head by which it may be readily turned, and it will be evident that upon turning the red the plunger 44 may be pressed outwardly against the pull of the spring 39 and engaged Within the opening 38, thereby locking the folding seat 28 when extended horizontally.
When the seat is thus held, the rocker is adapted for the use of one child seated substantially central of the structure, whose feet extend through the uncovered portion of the opening 23, and rest upon a flooring 48, secured between the standards 15, on the upper surface of the rockers 10.
hen it is desired to use the rocker for two children or if the child be disposed upon 1 the seat 21, the folding seat element 28, may
be turned over so as to rest upon the cross plate 30, permitting the apparatus to be used for both children with equal comfort, their feet extending through the main portion of 5 the opening 23 and resting upon the-flooring plate 48, in an obvious manner.
Having thus described my invention and set forth its manner and use, whatI claim as new and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is
1. Ina childrens rocker, the combination with a pair of symmetrical rocker-elements, having standards rising therefrom, a frame secured to said standards, chair backs on the ends of said frame, said frame containing an opening extending from the center to one end, a seat plate pivoted transversely in said opening, and means for supporting said seat plate at the ends of said opening,
whereby seats are providedfor either one or 'flooring disposed over thecentral portion of said rocker elements, uprights formed with said rocker elements,a frame secured on" said uprights, seat backs at the ends of said frame, said frame having an opening ex- .and means for projecting said plunger tended from a point near the center to near one end, a plate fixed below said opening at the end thereof, a pivoted plate hingedly engaged in said opening, and adapted to swingso as to cover its central portion, or
to rest upon said plate, a plunger movably mounted in the main portion of said frame, means for norn'ially retracting said plunger,
whereby it may be engaged with said swinging plate holding it in a rigid horizontal position.
In a childrens rocker, the combination with a pair of rocker platesrigidly united together, a. frame mounted thereon, said frame having an opening extending from the center to one end, seat back elements at the endsof said frame, a swinging plate mounted in the opening in said frame, said swinging plate when inone position allowing the seating of two occupants, and when in another position affording a seat for one occupant, means for securing a child on said seats, and means for holding said swinging plate'when disposed horizontally.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
