and useful Improvement in Garment-Drying Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact, description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this Specification.

Our invention relates to apparatus for drying garments over forms, and has for its principal object the holding of the garment on the form in a taut unwrinkled state suitable for drying with the best results.

We will show and describe our invention in connection with the tubular forms of a hosiery drier, but it is equally adaptable to similar forms for drying other garments.

Our invention consists of clamping members which are normally held against the form, and which, when the garment is applied to the-form, are spaced apart byythe operator and then allowed to return in posi-,. tion against the garment for holding same as described. The construction is suchthat the operation of the clamps does not require the operator to use his hands, which may be fully employed in mounting the garment on the form and smoothing it in place.

Our invention. is applicable to drying forms of the kind described in which the forms are mounted vertically as well as those in which the forms are given an incligiati-on with regard to the level of the ta le.

. Furthermore, our invention has adjustable features, whereby the same apparatus may be used with garments of different lengths upon the forms. I

Having now fully described our invention, what we claim and desire to protect by Let: ters Patent is:

1. In a. garment drier, the combination with a hollow form over which a tubular garment to be dried is adapted to be stretched, of a clamp adapted to confine the open end portion of the garment against the outer wall of the form, said clamp comprising a member consisting of a longitudinally extensible and contractible frame to enable it to be adjusted to adapt it to garments of different length,

2. In a garment drier, the combination with a hollow form over which a tubular which consists of a longitudinally eXt'cnsiblc and contracti-ble frame and a clam ping plate carried thereby, and means to more said frames in unison toward and from the form.

3. In a garment drier, the combination with a hollow form over .wlnch a tubular garment to be dried is adapted to be stretched, of a clamp adapted to conline the open end portion of the garment against the outer wall of the form, said clamp comprising two members each of which consists of a longitudinally extensible and contractible frame and a clamping plate carried thereby, said frames being pivot'ally mounted and located on oppositesides of the form, and means to swing said frames in unison toward and from the form.

4. In a garment drier. the combination with a. hollow form over which the tubular garment to be dried is adapted to be stretched, of a clamp movable toward the form to confine the open end portion of the garment against the outer wall of the form and movable away from the form to release the garment, mechanism to so operate the clamp including a tension device arranged to move the clamp into operative position and manually operable, means to more said clamp, against the action of the tension device, to release the form.

5. In a garment dri r. the combination with a hollow form over which a tubular garment to be dried is adapted to be stretched. of a clamp adapted to'confine the open end portion of the garn'icnt against the outer wall of the form, said clamp comprising two swinging frames and clamping plates carried thereby, a turnable. disk. links connecting the disk and the frames. manually operable means to turn the disk into position to retract the frames from the form, and a tension device. tending to turn the disk in the opposite direction until the clamping plates move into clamping position.

6. In a garment drier, the combination with a hollow form over which a tubular garment to be dried is adapted to be stretched, of a clamp adapted to confine the open'end portion of the garment against the outer wall of the form. said clamp comprising two members located on opposite sides of the form and pivoted on a common axis, connecting links whose upper ends are both located at one side of the form and which are attached to the respective clamping members whereby reverse movements concurrently imparted to the two connecting rods will effect a simultaneous opening or closing of the clamping members. a turnable disk to which the lower ends of the conne'cting rods are attached, rnanliellly"oper-- able means to turn the disk'to impart a clamp-opening movement to the connecting rods, and a tension deviee tendingti) turn the disk and move the connecting rods inthe opposite direction.
