le it known that we, Hanny J. STEWART and Ror McGnA'riI. subjects ot the King ot' (treatr Britain` residing at. Ottawa7 in the Province of Ontario and YDominion of Canada. have invented certain new and useful (Tar-Ticket Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to car ticket holders and the primary object is to provide a container adapted to receive and hold a. quantitv ot' tickets adapted to be singly ejected b v suitable mechanism mounted on the container and adapted to be conveniently engaged hy the finger ot the user.

(hie ot' thel objects of the invention is to provide a car ticket holder ot this character adapted to receive a quantity ot' tickets arranged so that all of the tickets may be forced toward the top of the container to be engaged by the adjusting mechanism so that as one ticket is ejected, the next adjacent ticket will be moved into engagement for being ejected.

The Ainvention also aims to provide a novel means to maintain the tickets in compressed position Within the container so that buckling or distorting of the tickets will be prevented.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which consists of comparatively few parts, and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.

For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merit-s thereof, reference iste be had t0 the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with our invention.

Referring to the drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the container 1 is ot' rectangular formation and has a cover Q on the bottom which is hingedly connected as at 3 to the container. The

opposite end of the cover is provided with a spring clip at adapted to be received in a recess or depression 5 formed in the end of the container so that the spring clip will hold the cover closed after the tickets have been placed in position.

The interior surface of the cover '2 is provided with a spring element 6 shown in de-4 tail in F ig. ,4. 'lhis spring is'formed from an elongated strip or' spring metal bent to provide a curved portion which receives a rivet 7 through a central opening for fastening the spring to the cover Q so that the spring` moves outwardly when the cover is opened.l

The compressor plate 8 is also provided within the container and is adapted to slide therein to press against the ticket. This plate is ,provided with cleats 5) which are arranged in parallel relation and are fixed to the plat-e at the center thereof being slightly spaced apart to t'orm a longitudinal channel l0.' This channel is substantially T-shaped in cross section b v virtue of the shape et the cleats 9 which are provided with the lips l1. The terminals of the spring are l`-shapcd. The ends ot the spring are cut out so that, the end portions taper and terminate in the fingers l2 adapted to tbe received in the channel lO and held therein b v the lips ll so that the ends of the spring travel in the channel when the spring is extended or contracted and because ot'. the central location ot the spring it will be obvious that the plate which 4compresses the ticketv will be held in a horizontal plane with respect to the top and bottom of the conso that the tickets will lbe evenly tainer pressed and be held against buckling ordistorting. Also it, will be noted that the compressoiplate 8 will swing outwardly from the container when the cover '2 is opened since the cover, spring and compressor plate are all connected together and form a single unit adapted to swing to open position, when the. cover is opened.

A housing 13 is mounted upon the top of the container and extends longitudinally thereof buty is slightly shorter than the container and is provided on its interior with a coil expansion spring 14 which bears against one closed end of the housing and has its opposite end in engagement with a sliding block l5 disposed within the housing an adapted to travel longitudinally thereof. The top of the housing has a longitudinal slot through which a pin 16 carried by the block is extended land ,this pin is provided with a knob 17 adapted to 'be engaged by the finger for sliding the block 15 loi`igi' tudinally through the housing to compress the spring 14. This block l15 also carries a spur 18 which has its ends-l disposed to engage the uppermost ticket in the stackA of tickets in the container. The top of the con.- tainer beneath the housing is provided with a longitudinal opening or slot through which the spur 18 extends so that its point will engage the uppermost ticket, and the end Wall 19 has an outlet slot '20 through which the uppermost ticket is ejected when the sliding block is moved longitudinally. In this manner the inger of the operator sliding the knob 17 will cause a ticket to be ejected through the relatively narrow slot 20 which is equal in width to the thickness of a ticket and after the ticket is withdrawn the next adjacent ticket will be moved into position by virtue of the pressure eX- erted 'by the spring on the compressor plate 8.

The :foregoing d description and accomconsidered to be the preferred or drawings'jhave reference to whatv approved form of our invention. We desire it to vbe understood that we may make such changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, materials, dimensions, et cetera as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus fully described our invention 'what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r-e A cail ticket holder coi'nprising a ticket container having a hinged cover, a curved spring member having each end providedv gers being adapted to be received in the Said channel and be moved longitudinally when the said spring is expanded 0r contracted.
