HOLDER ron E-CREAM itroLns.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application mea December s, i917. lseriai No. 206,231.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it lmown that I, CHARLES a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for 'Ice-Cream-Molds,
' forming the centers of 'fancyl ice cream bricks, it being one purpose of the invention to provide such a holderwhich will accommodate a large number of such molds and seal the same against the introduction of the ice and brine which is packed therearound to preliminarily freezethe material which is placed in the molds. To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said invention, then, consists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail certain apparatus embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but onel of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.
In said annexed drawings `Figure 1 is a side elevation of my im proved holder; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is an end view of the holder; Fig. 4 is a section showing the sealing cups in the bottom'of the holder and the tubes or molds received therein, and Fig. 5 is a simi lar section showing a modification of such sealing cups.
Referring now to Figs, 1, 2, and 3, there is shown a holder in the form of a casing, preferably constructed of sheet metal and provided with a solid bottom 1 and ends 2. On two sides, 3, the covering or metal is extended about half way down to permit of a free circulation of the freezing material through the holder and about the tubes which are to be placed therein, and to facilitate this circulation the ends 2 are provided with a plurality of apertures 4 therethrough, as are also the sheets which extend partly down the sides. For convenience B. TELLING,
handles are attached adjacent to the top at either end.-
Onthe bottom lof the holder are provided` a plurality 'of rows of sealing' cups l6, each cup being preferably cylindrical ini -shape Patent-@May 2o, 1919..
and extending upward from the bottom of the holder. ashort distance and having its up. per edge turned outwardly to form a flange` 7. Thev top 14 ofthe holder is providedwith a number 'of openings 8 arranged inv line c with Vthe sealing cups on the bottom and adapted to receive therein a plurality of molding tubes 9 of various shapes, all of which are, however, of about lthe same over` all dimensions so that they stand substantially vertical andparallel in the holders when their bottoms are in the sealing cups.
Between the sealing cups lin the bottom are disposed apertures 10 to Lpermit'of drainage from off the bottom of the holder and to permit of a free circulation of the freezing material.
In use the sealing cups are rst partially .lled with melted paraffin 11 4(see Fig. '4)
and the molding tubes are then set into these cups, the parafhn hardening quickly and acting to seal the lower ends of the various molds and thus to prevent any communication between the interior of the molds and the freezing material, which is circulated or packed about the molds in and around the holder. The material which is to form the centers of the fancy ice cream bricks is then poured into the molds until they are filled and is hardened or frozen by the freezing material that is circulated in and around the holder. To facilitate the filling of the molds, a filling box 15 is employed which is provided with a series of spouts 16 so spaced as to be alined with theV upper ends of the molding tubes 9, so that the tubes may be filled simultaneously.4 This freezing material may be drawn olf from the container in which the holder is held during the freezing process and the molding tubes 9 may then be withdrawn from the holder, washed yoli" with warm water to free the frozen cream or ice from the sides of the mold, and then placed in ice cream molds, which are first partially filled with relatively soft ice cream. After the filled molding tubes 9 have been placed therein the outer molds are completely filled with ice cream. The molding Y invention, as this has of course been usedv for .some time, and the present invention rev lates only to the holder, which is designed to v form a convenient means for filling and freezing a large number of molds at once 'Without permitting an excess of the freezing material, to be, inside of the mold Where it y would contaminate the ice o r ice cream being frozen therein.l
In Fig. 5, I `have shown a sealing cup l2V which is extended to a greater height than the ,cupsv` 6 and is not provided with any lateral flange and such a form may be used if desired. Both forms 6 and 12 are preferably permanently and rigidly secured to the bottomy 1 of the holder. l
Other modes of applyingthe principle of il. my invention may be employed instead of the one explained, change being made as regards the apparatus herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the `ollowingl claims or the equivalentV of such A. stated means be employed.
I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention 1. A holder for ice cream molds comprisinga casing member, Va plurality oficups coperatetherewith toreceive a plurality of tubular molds and maintain the parallelism. f e
2. A holder ,for ice cream molds comprising a casing" member, a plurality of open cylindrical cups mounted on the bottom of said casing, the top of saidjcasing beingprovided With aV plurality ,of 4apertures:alined With said cups and adapted to cooperate therewith toreceive a plurality of tubular molds and maintain the same in parallelism, and said cups containingy sealing material adapted to seal the ends of said molds.
3. A- holdefr for ice cream molds compris-` ing a casing vn'ember, a plurality of cups' mounted therein, the Wall of said casing opposite said cups 'being provided with apertures alined with said cups and adaptedto cooperate therewith to receive a plurality of tubular molds and maintain the same in parallelism, andthe other Walls of said casing beingprovided with openings serving to permit circulation through and into the same. Y
Signed by me, this 6th day of Dec., v1917.
