To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER C. COOPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roby, in the county of Fisher and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Printing Blue-Prints, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention comprehends generally improvements in that class of inventions known as photography and more particularly relates to a device for printing blue prints.
It is the primary aim and object of this invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character embodying a curved supporting board with the respective ends of which are associated clamping means de signed for engagement with the end of a map, picture or blue print and a sheet of sensitized paper for securing a perfect contact of the map, et cetera, with the surface of the board and in consequence produce an effective print.
More particularly the present invention contemplates the provision of a device of the above mentioned character wherein both of the clamps are of novel construction, one being stationary relative to the board while the other is adjustable to insure of the accommodation of various sized maps, pictures, I
et cetera, on the board.
Among the other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the above mentioned character wherein the number of parts are comparatively few, the construction simple, the cost of production low and the efiiciency high.
Other objects, as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of this invention will be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims, forming a part of this specification.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional detail taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings, there is provided a supporting board 1 of a rectangular configuration in plan but curved longitudinally of its len th and provided with a smooth outer sur ace. A sheet of sensitized paper 2 is adapted to be placed in contacting relation with the smooth outer surface of the board 1 while lying over the face of the paper is a map picture or blue print 3 desirably of the same size, both of the sheets being desirably of a width less than the width of the board.
In order to provide the improved stationary clamping means, a transversely disposed clamping bar 4 is employed having anchored therein the outer ends of upwardly arched or bowed resilient arms 5, the inner ends of which are carried with an attaching plate 6 in turn secured to the outer surface of the board medially of the side edges thereof to a suitable fastener such as a screw 7 so that the arms 5 will be tensioned to yieldingly hold the clamping bar 4 across the sheet 3 near one end thereof so that as a result both of the sheets 3 and 2 will be held in the proper contacting relation with each other and with the board 1. A grip handle 8 is connected to the bar 4 to facilitate the raising of the clamping bar when it is desired to remove the sheets 2 and 3 from the board.
As intimated, adjustable clamping means has been employed for coacting with the stationary clamping means in effecting a perfect contact of the map with the outer curved surface of the board preventing a wrinkling of the sheet and in eflect producing an effective print. In reducing this feature of the invention to practice, a pair of clamping members generally indicated by the numeral 9 are employed each member consisting of a relatively wide engaging jaw 10 from the rear edge of which and medially of the ends thereof extends a handle 11, the ends of the jaws being formed with opposed cars 12 through which a pintle 13 is passed for pivotally connecting the members to gether while suitable resilient means such as a coil spring 14 is arranged about the pintle and has its respective ends positioned so as to exert a tension on the jaws 10 and hold them in yielding engagement with each other and to insure of the retention of the opposite ends of the sheets 2 and 3 when the latter are placed between the jaws. In exerting a tension onthe sheets 2 and 3, suitable resilient means such as a coiled contractile spring 15 is employed one end 16 being secured about the pintle 13 medially of the ends thereof While the opposite end terminates in a hook 17 which coacts with a suitablefiexible element 18-including a cable 19.

It is believed in view of the foregoing de scription that a further detailed description of the operation'o'f the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise, it is believed that the advantages ofthe invention will be readily "apparent.

what is claimed as new and desired to be se cured by Letters Patent, is w 1. .A printing device ofthe character describedincluding a support having a curved and smooth-outer surface, a stationary sheet engaging clamp at one end of the curved surface of the support, and another sheet engaging clamp adjustably connected with the-support at a point opposite the stationclamp.
