Description

Q. P. BROCKWAYQ SPLINE SHAFT SPANNER WRENCH. APPLICATION FILED obT.'5. 1911.

CARL I. BROGKWAY, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, ASSIGHOR TO THE WILLYS-OVERLAN'D COMPANY, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
SPLIIN'E-SI-IAFT SPANNER-WRENCH.
d To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL P. BROCKWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of ()hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spline-Shaft Spanner- Wrenches, of which I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in spanner wrenches.
The principal object of this invention is to provide an improved spanner wrench, which is very simple and economical in construction and especially convenient for use in turning spline shafts.
Further objects, and objects relating to economics of manufacture and details of construction, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
ed out in the appended claims.
A structure constituting a preferred emb odiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure I is a View in side elevation, of a wrench constructed in accordance with. my invention.
Fig. II is an edge .view of the wrench shown in Fig. I, and v Fig. III is an end view of the same.
In the drawings, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
-plete semi-circle. .From the upperend of this semi-circular bearing surface 12, a por- Speciflcation of' Letters Patent.
' Patented'May 6, 1919.
Application filed October 5, 1917', Serial No. 194,904.
tionf 13 extends tangentially to said semicircular bearing surface for a short distance, and from the end of this portion 13, a lug 14 extends, at an angle to the part 13, inwardly until it crosses the path which the semi-circular bearing surface 12 would take if extended; A rib 15 is provided, which extends the length of the handle 10, to strengthen the same, and, in the head, comes to one side thereofand forms the broad bear shaft bythe engagement of said portion 14 My invention is clearly defined and pointwith the wall of the spline, so that the shaft -may be. rotated. This makes a very convenient and simple spanner wrench for use in connection with spline shafts, and one which a can be produced very cheaply in large quantities, as it is made of one piece, which may bear malleable casting, and requires practically no machining or work. 4
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: p A device of the class described, comprising 3 a handle; a headsecured'to said handle and provided with a broad semi-circular bearing surface; a bearing surface extending from one end of said semi-circular bearing surface tangentially thereto, and a lug extending at an angle to said tangential portion and crossing the line of the semi-circular bearing surface extended.
In testimony whereof I affix m signature.
CARL P. BRO KWAY.
