Description

O. JENSEN.
INTESTINE CLEANER.
APPLICATION vman Dsc. 20. 191s.

OLE JENSEN, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
INTESTINE-CLEANER.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 29, ll9i9.
Application filed December 20, 1918. Serial No. 267,676.
'after the intestine has been turned in such a manner that its natural inner side becomes its outer side, scrape olf the layer of mucus that is formed thereon, and the particular characteristic of the invention resides in the construction of the cylinders of thin steel wires or steel ribbons fastened at their ends to two yieldingly supported rings which form the ends of the cylinders.
The invention is shown on the drawing, wherein- Figures l and 2 are, respectively, an end view and a side view of the machine.
In the drawing l is a stand with two pairs of coperating cylinders 2, 2 and 8, 3 all of which cylinders are driven at the same speed by means of suitable gearing.
Above these cylinders is a pair of coperating guide cylinders 4, 4 which move slower than the scraping cylinders, so that the surfaces of the latter will exert a scraping action on the intestines.
0n each of a pair of plates 5 or the like arranged one at each side of the machine are pivoted two arms 6 and 7, the two arms 6 carrying a collecting roller 8, and the two arms 7 carrying a similar roller 9. These rollers may be caused to rotate in alternation by swinging first one and then the other into a position in which the two gears 10 with which they are each provided are meshed with the gears on the ends of one of the upper cylinders 3.
The machine works in the following manner:
On the roller 8, which is then in elevated position, overlying one of the guide cylinders 4, there is supposed to be rolled up a quantity of intestines to be cleaned, and when the guide cylinders rotate, the intestines will by and by be rolled off from the cylinder 8 and pass down through the pair of guide cylinders to the upper pair of scraping cylinders 3, between which they ultimately pass and are delivered to the lower pair, but owing to the guide cylinders 4, 4, having a slower peripheral speed than the scraping cylinders, the latter will scrape the intestines free from the layer of mucus that is on them.
While the intestines are being unrolled from the roller 8, a fresh quantity may be rolled up on the roller 9, so that said roller 9 may thereafter be swung upwardly into position above the roller 8, when the latter has become empty.
In order to avoid bursting or other damage of the intestines the scraping cylinders are made springy, that is, they consist of parallel rows of thin steel wires or ribbons 1l, which are fastened at their ends to rings 12, which are connected by radial springs 13 with the hubs of the cylinders.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In an intestine cleaner, the combination of a pair of coperating scraping cylinders each having its periphery composed of narrow strips of spring steel; a pair of coperating guide cylinders located above the scraping cylinders for feeding the intestines thereto; and means for driving the scraping rollers at a greater peripheral speed than the guide rollers. v
2. In an intestine cleaner, a pair of coperating scraping cylinders each comprising a pair of resiliently supported end rings, and narrow strips of spring steel connected at opposite ends to said rings and forming the peripheral wall of the cylinder.
3. In an intestine cleaner, the combination 'of a pair of counterpart scraping cylinders; a pair of coperating guide cylinders located above the scraping cylinders for feeding the intestines thereto; gearing for driving the scraping cylinders in unison; and a pivotally-mounted collecting roller provided with a gear and movable bodily from a lower position adjacent one of the scraping cylinders in which its gear engages and is rotated by the driving gearing, to wind up a mass of intestines on said collecting roller, to an upper position in which it overlies the guide cylinders to deliver the intestines thereto.
4. In an intestine cleaner, the combination of a pair of coperating scraping` cylinders;
gearing for driving them in unison at the feeding means to deliver the intestines saine surface speed; means for feeding inthereto. v l0 testines to said scraping Cylinder; and a In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature. pivotaHy-niounted Collecting roller movable OLE JENEN from zi position in which it engages and is rotated by said drivinggearing to wind up zi Witnesses:
mass of intestines upon it, to a position in CHARLES TENDE, which it is disposed in proximity to said E. VEIsKoW.
