Description

EEEEEEEEEE R.

Hams 5 0r6/75627 INV l ATTORNEY.
Unire HANS sonnivsniv, crnARnY, 'rownf SHADE-ROLLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patenten nee. 1e, 1921.
Application led September 27, 1919. Serial No. 326,743.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HANS SonnNsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hardy, in the county of Humboldt andState of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Rollers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtain or shade rollers and has vfor its object the provision of a shade roller provided with means whereby a shade may be detachably secured thereto without the use of tacks or similar fastening members, the improvement being in the provision of means engaging the roller and the shade for holding the shade in position.
Animportant object is the provision of a roller of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly eiiicient in use, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanyingv drawings in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a shade roller showing a shade thereon held by my c evice,
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, Y
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1, Y
Fig. 4 is an end elevation, and
Fig. 5 is an elevation of the roller with the shade removed. Y
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates a shade roller of ordinary construction and B designates a shade..
In carrying out my invention I provide a roller A. with a longitudinally extending groove 10 which extends entirely to one end thereof and which extends beneath the ferrule C at the other end. Disposed upon the end unprovided with the ferrule is a plate 11 pivotally mounted by means of the usual Y lug D provided on a shade roller and having an extension 12 adapted to register with and close the end ofthe groove 10. Disposed at spaced intervals within the groove 10 are guide members 13 which, in the present instance, are shown as screw eyes which are so arranged as to be disposed transversely of the groove.
rIhe shade B has its ends hemmed, as shown at 14, and has the edge of the hem provided with notches 15. VI also make use of a wire rod 16.
In assembling the shade and roller, the hem 14 on the shade is placed against the roller A with its edge disposed within the groove 10 and with the notches 15 arranged at the screw eyes 13. The disk 11 being rotated so that the extension 12 will be in nonobstructing relation to the groove 10, the
operator thengrasps the rod 16 and inserts it through lthe hem, through the screw eyes 13, and shoves it throughout the length of the groove 10 so that its end will engage beneath the ferrule C. After this is done the disk 11 is partially rotated to bring the extension 12 in alinement with the end of the groove 10 to form an end closure therefor for preventing longitudinal movement of the rod 16.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided very simple and efiicient means for attaching a shade to its roller without the use of tacks or similar securing means, my specific means being easily .Y
detachable without consuming any great degree of time and without liability ofinjuring the shade.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course tobe understood that I reserve ythe right to make such changes in the form,
construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
y `aving thus described my invention, I
claim of, a shade having one end hemmed and disand retained in position by said ferrule posable within said groove, said hem being and said disk being rotatable Wherenotched at intervals for the accommodation by to bring the lug thereof into engagement 10 of said guides, and a rod slidable longitudi- With the other end of said rod to prevent nally of said groove and insertible through longitudinal movement thereof. said hem and through said guides With In testimony whereof I aix my signature. one end of the rod engaging beneath 'HANS SORENSEN.
