27 and 28 designate the pair of movable contact members of the mechanism, secured together at their middle portion and to the aforesaid crank disk 13, through interposed disks of insulating material, and having pivotal relation with the operating shaft 2 without electrical connection therewith. In the preferred construction each movable contact member 27, 28 will consist of a pair of spring bars the outer ends of which have a flared formation and adapted to slide with' yielding friction upon opposite sides of the aforesaid contact ears or lugs of the fixed contact members of the mechanism with a view to preserve effective electrical contact during continued use.
The operation of the mechanism is as follows:
Assuming the parts to be in the circuit in-A terrupted conditlon shown in Fig. 1, with the crank disk 13 held from a rocking movement in either direction by the engagement of the lugs 17 of its associated sliding pla-te 16 against the inner faces of the holding flanges 12 of the operating plate 9. l In a manipulationl of the parts to the left to establish thecircuit on a motor or the .like and attain Va forward drive of the same,
of the right hand flange 12 of the operat- 'p ing plate 9, and said sliding plate 16 is held from movement to the right, with the stud or lug 14 o-f the associated crank disk 13 forming a stationary abutment for one of the fingers 20 of the spring member 19.
Said holding movement prevails until a turning movement o f the plate`9 to the left carries its right hand fiange 12 outof thev path of the aforesaid right hand lug 17 to release the same and permit a sliding movement of the plate 16 to the right, and a turning movement to the left of the crank disk 13 and the associated movable contact members 27, 28 into electrical contact with the right hand fixed contact members 23, 24, and left hand fixed contact members 25, 26, to complete the circuit and effect a forward drive of an electric motor or the like. In this and the other manipulations of mechanism hereinafter set for the movement of the plate 16 and associated parts takes place right, brings its right hand holding flange 12 into holding engagement with the inner face of the right hand lug 17 of the sliding plate 16, to hold the same andits associated parts from movement and in a locked condition until in the continued turning movement to the right of the plate 9 its right hand holding flange 12 moves out of the path of the aforesaid right hand lug 17 to release the same and permit a sliding movement of t-he plate 16 to the left, and a turning movement to the right of the parts operatively associated with the plates 9 and '16 to effect a ybreak in the electric circuit.
In a manipulation of the parts to attain a reversa-l in the :directionof the current to a motor or the like, the turning movement of the plate 9 to the right continued, and an initial movement of said plate. 9 brings its left hand holding Hange 12 into holding movable contact-. members 27, 28 into electrica-l contact with the left hand fixed contact members 23,. 24 and right hand Xed contact members 25, 26 to complete thelelcctrical circuit and attain a reverse drive of an electric motor or the like.
In the present switch mechanism, the Acoacting lugs 17 of the sliding plate 16 and holding lugs 12 of the operating .plate'9 con- .ne the parts to a predetermined degree of rocking motion in actual use. It ispref-V erable howeverv to provide separate means for attaining in a more substantial manner such restriction of movement, to wit: the
.marginal recess 7 and marginal stop lug 6 heretofore described.
