FOLDING GARMENT HGLDER.

INVENTOR.
' ATTQRNE Y.
EUGENE DUGAL HARPER, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA,
TO CECIL GEQRGE CLATNORTIIY,
ASSIG-NOR OF ONE-HALF OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
FOLDING G-rRMEhTT I-IOLDER.
Application filed June 1'3,
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, EUGENE DUGAL Hanrnn, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing in the city of Toronto, county of York, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Garment-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in folding garment holders, and the ob ect of my invention is to provide a device of the class set forth which can be readily collapsed or folded, together with the hook or other attaching means carried thereby, into a small compass, and one which can be cheaply manufactured so that It maybe given away by those engaged in clean ng and pressing clothes, and in the following specification I shall describe my preferred form of construction, and a modlfication thereof, and what I claim as new will be set forth in the claims forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my preferred form of garment holder, showing the same opened out for use. Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively side and edge views of my holder collapsed, and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view, in side elevation, of my holder, showingan alternative form of construction.
In the drawings, like characters of reference refer to the same parts.
2 is the horizontal bar to the ends of which, and preferably at the same side thereof, in my preferred form of construction, and by means of any suitable pivot ng means 3, such as rivets, the normally sloping side members f and 5 are flexibly coupled thereto. The side member 5 is slotted at its upper end as shown at 6. This slot extends longitudinally of the side-member, and of course opens through to each side thereof. Mounted in the said slot 6 is the eye 7 of th book 8. This eye also passes through a hole 9 formed in the bar 4.
By reason of this slot 6, suitably located, the side members f and 5 are permitted to slide past each other and fold into the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and yet be ready for immediate use, since they are held in relationship at their inner ends by reason of the eye 7.
In Fig. 4 I show one of the side members,
for instance, the side member 5 provided Specification of Letters I-atent.
Patented Dec. 6, 1921. 1921. Serial No. 478,404.
with a slot 6 at the end thereof which is coupled to one end of the horizontal bar 2. The position of this slot permits the holder to be collapsed. In this case, the eye 7 will pass through holes formed in the inner ends f the side members 4 and 5, and the result Wlll be that when the holder is collapsed, the slotted side member will extend beyond one end of the horizontal bar 2, and unduly lengthen the holder.
IVith my preferred form of construction neither of the side members project beyond the ends of the bar 2; therefore, he collapsed holder will occupy little space.
In the claims forming part of this specification, the term any is used to mean that either or both of the side members e and 5 may be slotted at their ends.
To permit of the complete folding of my garment holder, certain of the parts must be sprung so as to permit the coupling ele- 7 ment or hook 8 to occupy the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
IVhat I claim is:
l. A folding garment holder comprising a non-folding horizontal bar, and two side members pivoted at their lower ends each to its associated outer end of said horizontal bar; pivoting-coupling means permanently associated with the outer ends of said side members to hold them in cooperative relationship in order that when it is moved toward said bar it will move the outer ends of said side members therewith and locate them laterally of said bar and close said, holder, and when moved away from said bar it will move the outer ends of said members to open the holder, any of said side members being provided with a longitudinal end slot through which any of said pivoting means may pass, for the purpose specified,
2. A folding garment holder comprising a non-folding horizontal bar, and two side members pivoted at their outer ends each to its associated outer end of said horizontal bar, one of said side members being provided at its inner end with a longitudinal slot, and pivoting-coupling means permanently associated with the inner ends of said side members, and passing through said slot, to hold them in cooperative relationship in order that when it is moved toward said bar it will move the outer ends ofv said side members therewith and locate them laterally of said bar and close said holder, and when moved away from said bar it will move the outer ends of said members to open the holder.
3. A folding garment holder comprising a horizontal bar; two side members pivoted at their outer ends, each to its associated EUGENE DUGAL HARPER.
