Be it known that we, PAUL HJALMAR HURTIG, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden, residing at Katrineholni, Sweden, and CHRISTIAN HJALMAR MENTON, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden, residing at Katrineholm, Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements in Motor Plows or Cultivators, (for which we have filed application in Sweden, May 29, 1918,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to motor plows 0r cultivator-s and more especially to an improved supporting device for the plow body or bodies.
The object of the invention is to provide a supporting device so constructed that the plow body or bodies when meeting in the ground a resistance of a certain size, for instance when striking a large stone or any other obstacle will be lifted automatically so far that they can pass by the said obstacle and thereupon automatically be brought back into the working position by the supporting device. The latter may, further, be so constructed that it will be capable of lifting automatically the plow bodies out of engagement with the ground under the influence of the resistance normally ofi'ered by the ground, for instance when ending the plowing operation.
The invention consists, chiefly in the combination with a motor plow or cultivator of a plow body supporting device, movable up and down in an inclined direction, and means for counteracting by means of fluid pressure the upward movement of said supporting device.

eferring to the drawing, 1 indicates a portion of the frame of the motor plow or cultivator, and 2 indicates the plow body. To the frame 1 is rigidly secured a guide way 3, preferably made of U-iron and hav-. ing its rear end located at a higher level than the fore end thereof and supported by rods 4, rigidly secured to the frame 1 and the guide way 3. Only one of said rods is shown in the drawing. In the guide way 3 is provided a frame or a carriage 5, running on wheels 6 and movable u and down in said guide way 3. The sai carriage is by means of arms 7 rigidly connected with the plow body 2 and has a pin 8 forming the fulcrum of a piston rod 9 of a piston 10 which is disposed in a cylinder 11. The latter is pivoted on pins 12 (only one shown in the drawing) so that it can swingon these pins in a plane at right angles to a plane through the shafts of the wheels 6. The piston rod may be surrounded by a protecting part 13 of any suitable shape. The cylinder 11 has an inlet 14 through which a suitable pressure fluid, such as oil, may be supplied, and is by means of a flexible tube or pipe 15, or the like, connected to a receptacle 16 for the fluid or oil under pressure. The pressure may be eil'ected by means of compressed air or gas contained in the receptacle in the space above the oil level the receptacle being suitably provided with a safety valve 17. The compressed air or gas may be supplied to the receptacle 16 in any convenient manner, while the oil may be supplied by means of a pump 18 connected to an oil receptacle 19. In the pipe 15 is inserted a three way cook 20 being connected by a pipe 21 with the oil receptacle 19.
When the plow body 2 is in the working position shown in the drawing and during the plowing operation strikes an obstacle, for instance a large stone, which offers a greater resistance than that normally offered by the ground and greater than the oil pressure normally existing in the cylinder 11, which pressure is transmitted to the carriage 5 through the piston 10 and the piston rod .9, the carriage 5 together with the plow body 2 will be forced upward in the guide way 3. The plow body hereby will be lifted so that it can pass by the obstacle. When the carriage is forced upward the piston 10 moves inward in the cylinder which turns on its pivots 12, so that the outer end of the piston rod 9 can follow the movement of the carriage, the piston at the same time forcing a corresponding quantity of the oil contained in the cylinder back into the receptacle 16. When the plow body has passed the obstacle the pressure in the cylinder 11 will force the carriage 5 downward in the guide way 3 thereby bringing the plow body back into the position shown in the drawlng.
When the plow body 2 is to be lifted after the plowing operation has been ended for instance in turning points, the three way cock 20' is so adjusted that the connection between the pipe 15 and the receptacle 16 is broken and the pipe 15 is put in connection through the plpe 21 with the receptacle 19 wherein no pressure exists. In the continued movement of the motor plow the carriage 5 will now liftthe plow body out of en agement with the ground.

Having now described our invention what we claim is:
1. In a motor plow or cultivator the combination of, an inclined guide way, a plow body supporting carriage movable up and down therein, a cylinder, a piston therein, a piston rod secured to said piston and pivot-,
ally connected to said carriage, a pressure fluid receptacle, and a flexible pi e connecting said receptacle and said cy inder, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a motor plow or cultivator the combination of, an inclined guide way, a plow body supporting carriage movable up and down therein, a cylinder, a piston therein, a piston rod secured to said plston and pivotally connected to said carriage, a pressure fluid receptacle, a flexible pipe connecting said receptacle and said cylinder, a three 'way cock in said pipe, a pressureless oil receptacle and a pump connected to the fluid, and 011 receptacles, a second pipe connecting said cock and said oil receptacle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
