Be it known that l, PASCAL M. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Dalhert. in the county or Dallam and State or Texas, have made new and useful Improvements in Spurs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relat particularly to the att same.

An important object of this invention 1s to provide novel means whereby the attaching buttons on a spur may be swingingly connected to the band of the spur in such men er that the same will lie flatly in contact with the ankle portion of the bootso as not to scrape or vvear the boot. i

A further object of the invention is to provide novel means whereby the swinging button attached to the arm of a spur may be readily renewed without the exercise of unusual skill.

A further object of the invention is to orovide an eiiicient and neat swinging button to be used on any style of spur.

Each bracket 10 constitutes attaching means for an arm generally designated by the numeral 14- and Which is formed from a single length or" metal bent upon itself into intermediate ends to form inner and outer limbs 16 and 17 respectively. At the juncture of the limbs 16 and 17 the of metal is formed with a transversely extendinglateral projecting barrel or sleeve 18 which rotatably receives the bite por tion 13 of the bracket 10 whereby the arm 14 is swingingly connected to the bracket 10. As illustrated in Fig. 4 the inner limb 16 of the arm 14-, is flush with the inner side of the band so that when the spur is applied the arm 1% will lie flatly in contact with the heel or ankle portion of the boot. It Will be observed that the arm let is arranged entirely above the band and therefore lies flatly in contact with the boot so that the end oi the arm will not scratch or lacerate the boot.

The end portions of the lhnbs or branches l6 and 17 are connected by the shank 19 of a button 20, to which a retaining strap is adapted to be connected.

In the manufacture of the improved swinging buttons the arms and the brackets are constructed separately and are united prior to the attachment of the bracket to the spur. The improved swingers and brackets may be readily attached to the spur band by means of the rivets l2 and should the swinger become worn as the result of continued use, the same may be readily renewed by simply removing the rivets 12 and attaching a new bracket and arm.

As illustrated in Fig. at no parts of the arm or swinger protrude through the band and contact with the boot so that the inner side of the band is left entirely smooth.

These improved swinging buttons may be sold without the spur and the purchaser can easily attach them to old spurs by drillingholes in the band or arms of the spur and riveting them on.

I claim:

l. A spur comprising a band, a U-shaped bracket having arms secured flatly in contact with the outer side of the band and having a bite portion arranged above the upper edge of the band, an arm inclusive 01" a pair of limb and a bearing member receiving the bite portion of said bracket, and a button having a shank connecting the length terminal portions of said limbs, one of said limbs being adapted to lie flush with the inner side of said band.

2. An attachment for spurs comprising a 5 U-shapecl bracket having means whereby the same may be secured to the band of a spur and having a bite portion, and an arm inclusive of a pair of limbs and a bearing member receivlng the bite portion of said bracket, and a strap engaging member having a shank extending through and connecting the terminal portions of said limbs.
