Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MARTIN ELMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings. county of Barry, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stylus-Holders for Phonograph-Re roducers, of which the followmg IS a speci cation.
This invention relates to improvements in stylus holders for phonograph reproducers.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved stylus holder which eliminates the scratching noise commonly incident to phonographs.
Second, to provide a stylus holder which is adapted for use with the numerous types of phonograph sound boxes now on the market and in more or less extensive use. I
Further objects, and objects relatmg to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this applicatlon, in which:

The body and 'aws are preferably formed as illustrated rom a piece of sheet metal rolled into the body, the edges bein conformed to an S shape providing the neo and the jaws.
The holder is provided with a shank 9 adapted to be' engaged in the socket of the sound box, the shank having a cross-bar 10 in bearing engagement with the recess-like bearings 11 formed in the walls of the body 4. The shank and its cross-bar are embedded in the resilient block 12 which is clamped within the body.
The stylus 13 illustrated is of the wood or fiber type and is supported in a block 14. of resilient material, the block being clamped within the jaws 5.
The yoke clamp 8 is adapted to clam the stylus supporting block and also the s ank supporting block. By supporting the same with the cam-shaped slot and slidably mounting it upon the neck of the jaws it may be quickly adjusted to release or clamp the jaws.
A blank from which the body and jaws are formed is illustrated in Fig. IV.
My improved stylus holder is very efiective in e iminating scratching and other objectionable noises, and honographs equipped with the same pro uce pleasing, smooth tones.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in a form or adaptation which I find very satisfactory.
I have not attempted to illustrate or describe certain modifications or adaptations which I contemplate as I believe the disclosure made will enable adaptation as may be desired. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1.
