open position, aswell as providing a reinforcement to the opened lid, so that the lid can be engaged as a handle to the box.
Another object of the invention is in providing a ticket holding device, which forms part of a device for holding the lid of a box in opened position. I r
Other and further objects will appear in the specification and be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, exemplifying the invention, and 1n which,
Figure 1 is a transverse section taken through a cigar box, showing this'improved device applied thereto, and holding the lid of the box in an open position, whereby the goods contained in the box can be displayed. as well as showing the ticket holding memher, which comprises part of the device.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal section taken through Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective of that portion of the device which is cooperable with the box and its lid.
Referring to the drawings, this improved device is comprised of a pair of cooperating members 1 and 2, the member 1 being preferably constructed from a single piece of wire, and having an approximately straight formed portion 3 and an inclining extending portion 4, the upper end of said portion 4: terminating into a loop 5.
Adjoining the portions 3 and a is a horizontally formed loop 6, providing an opening 7 and formed at the lower end of the portion 3 is a pointed projection 8, which extends in the same direction as the loop 6.
The member 2 is also preferably constructed of a single wire length having a straightened portion 9 which is pointed as designated at 10, the upper end of the straightened portion 9 of the member 2 being wound into a coil 11, in which a pair of side lapping portions 12 and 1-8 are formed, the upper surface of the portion 13 extending to a plane higher than theupper surface of the portion 12, in which the upper surface of the portion 13 will form a backing or engaging portion, as designated at 1 1, so that a ticket or card 15 can be readily introduced between the portions 12 and 13, as-
clearly shown.
As already mentioned in the objects of this invention, this improved device is applicable to boxes of goods that are to be displayed, andas shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the loop 6 is introduced between the rear edge 16 and rear wall '17 of the box, and passed through the fabric hinging member '18'provided'for the lid, after the lid 19 has been opened to an approximate vertical posltionr j The pointed projection 8 of the member 1 is then pressed into the rear wall 17 of the box, then the member 2 is engaged in the opening 7 of the loop 6, and passed therethrough, until the pointed end 10 thereof engages and is pressed into the bottom 20 of the box, the loop 6 and the pointed end 10 of the member 2 holding said member in a vertical position, said member also providing means for preventing the looped portion 6 of the member 1 from being withdrawn. from its inserted position. The price ticket 15 is then introduced into the coiled portion 11 as described, and the box of goods is ready for display.
From the position of engagement of the member 1 with the box and lid thereof as disclosed, in which the inclining portion 1 of said member 1 is engaged flatly against the lid, as well as the relation of the engagement of the looped portion 5 against the lid, which tends to prevent the member 1 from turning or swinging movement, it is to be noted that the lid of the box is reinforced and held by said member 1 in such a manner whereby when the upper edge of the lid is engaged, said lid will provide a handle to the box for conveying it to and from a show case or the like.
In addition to the aforesaid, the displaying position of the member 2 relative to the member 1 provides assurance whereby the member 1 cannot fall or be pushed away by the weight of the inclining lid leaning there against, as said member 2 serves as a locking member for preventing the with drawal of the apertured loop 6 of the memher 1. r r ,WVhat I claim is :v 1
1. A device for sustaining the lid of a box in an open positiomcomprising a member having a loop formed intermediate oi its ends, and a second member cooperable with said loop of said first mentioned member for preventing said looped member from becomingdisengaged fromthe box lid,'said second member bearinga pair of lapping portions for the introduction of a price card.
2. A device for sustaining the lid of a box in anopen position, comprising a member having an extending loop formedintermediate of its ends, said member having an inclined portion extending from said loop which is adapted to be engaged by the top surface of the box lid, and there being another portion extending at a right angle frO I said loop for engagement against the outside o'l one of the Walls of the box when said looped portion is inserted horizontally betweenthe rear edge oi the box lid and the box. 7
A device for sustaining the lid of a box in an open position, comprising a. member haying an extending loop i'ormedintermediate of-its ends, said member having an inclined v portion extending from, said loop which is adapted to be engaged by the box lid, and'there being another portion extending from said loop ior'engagement against theoutsid'e'of one of. the Walls of the box when said looped portion is inserted between the rear edgeof-the box lid and the box, and another member bearing means for holding a price card adapted to be inserted through said loop of said first mentioned member, whereby the introduced end thereof will engage the box, said second mentioned member proyiding means for preventing said first mentioned member from being removed from its position of engagement with the box and its lid.
4:.. A devicefor sustaining the lid of a box in an open position, comprising a member having an extending loop formed intermedi- 7 said loop whereby the pointed end thereof Will engage the bottom of the box.
