CLOTHES-PRESSING- APPARATUS,
ieeaeoo.
Patented Nov. 115, i921,
Application filed .Tune it), 1918. Serial No.4 240,863.
To all whom t may concern.' Y
Be it known that l, ARTHUR E. SNOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain lnew and useful improvements in ClothesPressing Apparatus; and l do hereby declare thev following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as `will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part yof this specification;
My invention relates togarment pressing apparatus, and has for its object the construction and combination of a puil'firon, with which the shoulders and collars of garments may be steamed 4and formed into propell shape, with the upper steam heated oscillating buck of a clothes lpressing apparatus in such a manner that it will not be in the way of the operator using the other features of the machine, when not in use.
These objects l accomplish by construct ing a puff-iron of suitable shape to fit the inside of the shoulders or collar of a coat, and securing it to the oscillating steam heated press-buck of a clothes pressing apparatus in such a manner that it will be practically above the front end of the buck, and move up and down in unison there with, and receive its steam supply from the buck when it isin its lowermost position.
rlhese and other features of my Y invention will appear hereinafter' and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l, is a side elevation of a garment pressing apparatus with my improved puff iron mounted thereon.
`Figl 2, is a transverse section o f my improved puif iron on the line min Fig. 3.
Fig. 3, is a longitudinal section of the same on the line 'y in Fig. 2.
In these drawings A indicates an upright standard or support; B indicates a work table supported on said standard; B indicates an ironing board or press buck also supported on said standard; C indicates an oscillatory arm or lever pivoted on the upper end of the standard A, to which is se cured a hollow press buck C', to which steam may be supplied through the pipes c-c from any suitable source of supply (not shown) for the purpose of heating the press buck C". The press buck C can be raised and lowered as indicated by broken lines in Fig. l, as may be desired, by means venient position to be used and at the same Vuse of press bucks Cl and B in the usual Y and ordinary manner; and when thev press time does not in any wise interfere with the buck C is raised,.the pu' iron is raised up C', there is the front out of the way, in unison therewith, as indicated by broken linesin Fig. l.
ln constriicting my improved pui-iron F, l make a 'lower section f (see Figs. 2 and with a flat upper wal 7,said fiat upper wall being secured to the lower semi-,cylindrical or oval wall thereof by means of an integral stud f having a longitudinal opening therethrough to receive a screw f2. 'lf he upper flat wall /f is provided with a very small opening f3 to permit steam to flow from the interior of the section f. Upon the upper flat surface f of the section l place an upper semi-cylindrical section (I, having a downwardly projecting stud G, having a screw threaded opening therein to receive the upper end of the screw f2 by means of which the section G is held in place so as to cover the fiat upper surface of the lower section f of the pufl'iron.
rFhe uppei1 section G is provided with small perforations g Y through the curved wall thereof. Steam is supplied to the lower section to heat the iron, and a small portion thereof hows through the restricted opening f3 into the upper section from which it escapes through the perforated wall thereof in a line vapor. l/'hen it is desired to steam shoulders and collars of garments, the pudiron is lowered and the fabric to be steamed is placed over the iron and the steam or vapor from the perforations will penetate therethrough, and the garment can be moved along over the iron as may be desired, and
when the operator has finished using the' puff-iron andreleases pressure thereon, or
on the handle I),the counterweighted lever C .will raise it upward out of the way.
Having thus fully shown and described .my invention so as to enable others to utilize the same, what'I cla-im as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is r- 1,. In a combined press and puff iron structure, a press including a hollow meinber provided with steam supply means, a puff iron mounted upon and arrangedabove said member, and steam, conneetion'between said puff iron and said member.
y 2. In a combined I press and puff Viron structure,"a press including a head having steam supplyl me'ansa steam pipe extending upward Vfrom said head, and a puff iron mountedupon and communicating with'said -steam pipe andcomprisi'nghollow heating member andl an upperperforated member, the'rebeing communication Vbetween the upper and lower'members ot' the puit iron.
3; A puff iron, comprising upper and lower members, the lower member having an .upper wall provided with a' restricted through' opening and a lower curved wall,
tie means connecting said upper and lowerv walls,'a securing device passing Vthrough said vtie means and extending above said upper wall, the Vupper member being prolvided `withY perforations through the wall thereofvand 'adapted'to seatupon the lower member, a stud onsaid upper member adapted for connection to said securing device or securing said members together, andnieans for supplying steam to the lower member.
'4. .A purl" iron, comprising a hollow chamber lower member having a horizontal upperV wall provided with an opening, a lower wall for said member, a steam supply conduit communicating with the chamber in said member, an inverted dish shaped upper member having the edge of its wall seated upon the `outer portion of the upper wall said member, an inverted dish shaped upper member having the edge oi' its wall seated uponv` the outer portion ofthe upper wall ofthe lower member, and means accessible from beneath the lower member and passy ing through the same and engaging the up-k per member for securing said members to-v gather. 4
VV6. A pu iron, comprising a hollow chamber, lower member having a horizontal up-V per wall providedrwith an opening, a lower Vwall for said member, a steam supply conduit Communicatingwith the chamber in said member, an inverted dish shapedupperV member` having the edge of its wall seatedV -upon the outer portion of the upper wall of the ylower member, and a single device located at approximately the center of the lower member and passing through .the same yand engaging the upper member for detacliably securing said members together.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
