Be it known that I, BERNARD SUMMER- rirno. citizen of the Fnited States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Heels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to heels for boots and shoes and particularly to detachable metallic shell heels.

An object of this invention is to provide a heel which may be quickly and easily attached to a shoe, and which when attached will be of a design simulating the usual heel and without any of the attaching parts exposed to view.

A further object of this invention is to provide an attachment for a heel to a shoe that will be strong and durable and that can be quickly, easily and cheaply manufactured.

lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists of the construction, the combination, the detail, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In detail the invention comprises a heel A and a plate B attached to a shoe C. Heel A is provided with a countersunk screw hole 2 and catches 3 and 3 and is otherwise hollow and has a top contour to conform to the contour of the shoe. Plate B is provided with a pair of tongues at and 4" to interlock with members 3 and 3 as the heel is slid backward and is held seated by a screw 5 inserted through hole 2 and into a screw threaded hole 6 in tongue l which draws the locks 3 and 3 and 4 and at to their respective seats and thereby locks the heel in position. Plate B is suitably affixed to the sole or welt of the shoe as desired by nails 7 or by other suitable means.

It is obvious therefore that in assembling the heel to the shoe all that is necessary is to press the heel against the bottom of the sole slightly forward of the normal position and slide it backward. and insert screw 5 which is made with its head coplanar with the front surface of the heel by reason of the countersink, and then the heel is completely assembled and all parts are hidden from view so that when suitably colored the heel is attractive and of the usual appearance.

It is further obvious that all of the parts functioning in this attachment are completely concealed from view and are within the shell of the heel.

It is further obvious that by reason of the evolved structure of the bridges in the heel shell that they serve both as braces for this shell and also as means for interlock and that a very strong and substantial fitting is obtained and also a very strong and durable heel is obtained with minimum weight and without any complicated structure.

Claims:

1. A demountable heel attachment comprising a metallic plate, a pair of tongues struck out from said plate and disposed at an angle with respect thereto, said tongues being arranged in longitudinal spaced relation, a heel member hollow in cross section, a pair of catches formed in the heel member and arranged in longitudinal spaced relation, said catches and tongues operative as interengaging latches upon the movement of said heel relative to the plate, means for affixing the plate to a shoe, one of said tongues being adapted to come into juxtaposition to the front of the heel and means for anchoring said heel to the juxtapositioned tongue.

2. A demountable heel attachment comprising a perforated plate and means for affixing said plate to a shoe, a pair of longitudinally spaced tongues struck out from said plate and being disposed in an inclined position, the lower ends of said tongues being arranged at substantially right angles ment of said heel relative to the plate, one
