Description
O. BUHL. FIREARM.
APPLICATION FILED 050.31, 1920.
Patented Nov. 1, 1921.
, UNITEDSTATES PATENTI o FIcE.
OLUF BUHL, OF NEWELL, IOWA.
FIREARM. r
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLUF B HL, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Newell, in the county ofBuena'Vista and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Firearms, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has. for'its object the provision of a shotgun or other firearm embodying such a constructionthat it may be fired by slight pressure against a buttonor buttons at the upper'side of the hand grip of the fire arm, this being materially advantageous inasmuch as it does away with projections likely to catch against weeds, brush or wire and cause premature dis-' charge, and alsobecause it does not interfere in any measure with the aiming of the fire arm. v The improvement is further advantageous inasmuch as the fire arm is fired without affecting the'grip of the user on the handgrip of the fire arm.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the
invention consists in the improvement as equipped with a hand grip 2', and 3, 3 are .being connected with the stock in the; ordi-3 hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, forming, part hereof V o Thefigure isa sectional perspective of so much of a shotgun as is necessary to illustrate myinvention; the shotgun being of double barrel type. L Y V. Referring by numerals to the said draw- 1ng,: 7
1 indicates the stock of the fire arm,
the barrels of the fire arm; the said barrels nary manner or inany other manner com patible with the purpose of my invention. Appropriately mounted and movable in fire arm. are pins 4, having heads 5 at their outer andrear ends. The said pins 4 are movable rectilinearly, and their. inner ends are opposed to the upstanding arms 6 of longitudinally arranged sears which are pivotally mounted at 7 and are provided withforwardly reaching arms 8.. Thesaid arms '8 are opposed at their forward'ends toabut ments ,9 on firing hammers 10 which are preferablyof general hook-shape and are pointed at their ends as indicated by 11.
hand grip 2 of the fire arm.
firing hammer havinga' rearj abutment and alsohaving a transverse shaft. and means on the shaftand at the side-of thestockfor the retractionof the hammer, asp'ring about I 'mer forwardly; said spring being tensioned by the retraction of the firing hammer and inwardly and forwardly Specification of Letters Patent. Patented NOV. 1,1921. 1 Application filed December 31. 1920. j Serial No. 434,330.
The firing hammers 10 are pivoted toand carried by a transverse shaft 12 which is I mountedin the stock and is equipped with a torsional spring orsprings 13 constructed and arranged to be placed under tension by retraction of the firing hammers 10, and to forcibly swing the said hammersforwardly when the hammers are released from the arms 8 of the sears. Any appropriate means such as protruding finger pieces 14 maybe employed for retracting the hammers 10 and placing their springs under tension while fire the charge in either barrel of the fire 7 arm is to exert a slightinwardpressure on the'pin 4L complementary to the said barrel. f It will be manifest from the foregoing l i the man- V that only sllght pressure on either .of, the;
pins 4; is neoessary to' disengage its searfrom the hammer 10, and that therefore the firing of the firearm will not be, attended by any alteration of aim, norj will'it diminish in any degree'the grip thatthe userhas upon the 7 Havingdescribed my'iinvention, what I claimanddesire tosecure by Letters-Patent,
A fire arm comprisinga stock, a swinging the transverse shaft to impel the'firing hamthe attendant 'rackingf 'of the shaft, a longitudinally-arranged sear pivoted in the stock iandh'aving a forwardly-reaching hammerengaging' arm and also having a rear upstandinggarm, and a pin guided in the stock and opposed at} its inner and forward end] to therear side of the upstanding arm of the sear ;-said pin'heingdesigned' to be pressed fire f arm.
