IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BEiD-BOTTOMS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,567, dated June 3, 1873; application filed March 29, 1873.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES GAMMEL, of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvementin S prin g Bedottoms, of which the following is a specilication:

The invention consists in improving the construction of bed-bottoms, as hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.

A are ordinary coiled springs, any desired number of which may be used. The ends of the wires that form the springs Aat each end of said springs are bent to forni squaresB of a little larger diameter than the springs. The sprin gs A are arranged in rows and alternately, as shown in Fig. 1. In the vacant spaces which arrangement vrequires the springs to be made weaker than when arranged alternately, as shown in Fig. 1.

At two points, one-quarter the distance from the head and foot, the adjacent sides of two rows of squares, B C, upon the under side of the bed-bottom are not connected7 so that the end y To the lower side of the parts or sections of the bed-bottom are secured pieces of Brussels carpet, E, or other firm thick cloth, to rest up on the slats of the bedstead and thus prevent noise when the bed is being used.
