Description

W. M. FAUSSET. RECEPTACLE- APPLICATION FILED mums, 1920. I
. W //rv/vr0/?.. 1 W /M 4 M A rromvfl Patented Oct. 25, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 25, 1921.
Application filed June 18, 1920. Serial No. 390,051.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVINIFRED MABEL FAUssnr, 56 Regent street, Newtownards, Co. Down, Ireland, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles, of which the following 15 a specification.
This invention relates to boxes and receptacles and more particularly to traveling trunks such as cabin trunks, overland trunks and the like.
Under my invention I provide a box, receptacle, trunk or the like, with means whereby one or more trays or shelves can be placed therein and so that each can be pressed down on the goods below it and there retained against any upward pressure exerted by said goods so as to leave the space above the shelf or tray free for other goods. A number of such trays may be provided and fittedinto the receptacle as described.
In order that the invention may be understood I have hereunto appended an explanatory sheet of drawings showing the invention applied in different ways to abox trunk.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a box or trunk embodying one form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to Fi l.
Ideferring to the drawings In carrying out my invention as shown at Figs. 1 and 2 the box a, is provided, at the corners, with racks b which are movably arranged, being supported, at their lower ends, in bearings c. The racks b are normally pressed inwardly by springs d but they are capable of being pulled back against the action of the springs (Z when required and for this purpose suitable thumb and finger grips are provided at the top ends of the racks. Each shelf or tray f is made, at the corners, with metallic projections f capable of engagement with the teeth of the movable racks which, under their spring action, en gage with said corners f and hold the shelf or tray at any position to which it may have been pushed downin the box or trunk a. The racks b can be released from engagement with the shelf or tray f by pulling them back at the top against the action of their springs (Z and when they are so pulled back they free themselves from engagement with the shelves or trays f and allow the latter to be moved upwardly or to be lifted out of the box or trunk if required.
Having now fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is l. A receptacle, a shelf adapted to fit therein, racks pivoted at bottom corners of the receptacle and springs pressing said racks inwardly into engagement with the shelf so as to retain the latter in any position to which it may be adjusted against the action of upward pressure exerted thereon.
2. A receptacle, a shelf adapted to fit therein, racks pivoted at bottom corners of the receptacle, springs pressing said racks inwardly into engagement with the shelf so as to retain the latter in any position to which it may be adjusted against the action of upward pressure exerted thereon and grips at the free ends of the racks by which they can be moved about their pivots, against the action of the springs, to release the shelf.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WINIFRED MABEL FAUSSET.
Witnesses ANDREW HAMILTON, HARRY WALTER ALLsoP.
