SCRAPER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT bMrrH, a citizen of the United iatates, residing at Leetonia, in the county of (Jolumbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Scraper, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a scraper for bearings, metallic or other surfaces generally where an article of this nature is used.

I particularly aim to produce an article of this kind which is generally improved, an article which will replace a number of scrapers, one which may be operated with less effort and skill and at less expense, one which has blades at opposite ends, and one which has the particularly shaped blade hereinafter described.

One preferred embodiment is illustrated in accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a side view;

Fig. 2 is a bottom View;

Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the scraper.

Referring specifically to the drawings, the article is preferably made in a single piece from steel or other suitable material, essentially having a handle A and scraper blades B. The article is preferably reduced at G to provide a slight degree of flexibility at this point to overcome chattering when the scraper is in operation.

Blades B are generally triangular in crosssection as shown in Fig. 3 or in other words, each blade has a tine or leaf 5 disposed at an angle to each other. Leaves 5 taper toward a point 6 and from their widest portion or heel 7 curve inwardly at 8 toward each other. The lower or scraping edges of these leaves have an inclined but elongated straight portion 9 which merges into a curved portion 10 which leads to the point 6 and which merges into an upwardly curved portion 11 at the heel 7 and portions 8 to the reduced portions C.

As will be obvious the outside marginal edges as at 12 are sharpened so as to form the scraping edges.

The median line of the handle or shank coincides with the points 6 as will be noticed in order that the handle be raised above the heels 7 to permit the same to be readily grasped and manipulated.

In operation, the handle or shank is grasped and manipulated forward and backward with the edge 12 in biting and scraping relation with the work, the handle being tilted on one end according to the angle desired and the portion of the edge 12 intended to scrape. At one angle, the entire straight edge 9 may scrape, while at another, the curved edge 10 may, while at still another the curved edge 11 may, which edge it will be noticed is on a different curve from the curve 10. The arrangement therefore enables a wide flat surface to be expeditiously scraped and also selective curved edges to be used when cavities are scraped. The use of the two blades enables a pres sure to be produced upon the article.

It will be noticed that the scraping edges, both straight and curved are arranged so that the article may be sharpened by an ordinary grinding wheel.

Since merely the preferred embodiment has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details may be resorted to within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.

I claim A scraper having a blade with angularly disposed leaves, said leaves tapering to a point, the lower or free edges of said leaves having a substantially straight portion, a curved portion leading therefrom to the point, a second curved portion leading from the straight portion. a handle, and a reduced connecting means between the blade and handle to reduce chattering.
