Description

H. R. MONDY.
ELECTRICAL BRUSH. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 12.1921.
1,393,635. Patented 0311,1921.
UNITED STAT E S HELEN R. MONDY, OF ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY.
ELECTRICAL BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
Application filed February 12, 1921. Serial'No. 444,621.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, HE EN R MONDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at 609 North Indiana avenue, Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and the State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Electrical Brushes, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improvement in hair brushes for brushing and drying the hair after shampooing or after a person has gotten the hair damp or wet.
This brush can be carried easily in a small hand bag and used'at any time where electricity is available.
My invention is fully described inthe following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part.
Figure 1 is a plan of my apparatus em bodying my invention showing part of the bristle plate broken away.
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic view in section of the apparatus which I employ and showing the electric wiring and heating unit therefor.
Fig. 3 is'a section on the line 3+3 of Fig. 1; similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the drawing.
In Fig. l of the drawings I have shown a hair brush A consisting of a body portion A, a bristle plate a, and bristles a ofmetal and a-handle H of wood- Part of the bristle section isbroken away for the sake of clearly illustrating the construction as shown in Fig. 1. t
In Fig. 2 of the drawings, I have shown a metal core G running through the center of the handle and the body of the brush. Through this metal core runs a twin conductor 0 which extends up through the handle to the body of the brush where it con tacts with the heating unit. This heating unit consists of a small length or coil of high resistance wire which becomes red hot due to the current passing through it and which heats the bristles.
At the end of the handleH is an opening 0, adapted to receive the plug 10. To the plug is attached insulated wire w which connects with the screw plug. This screw plug can be connected to an electric fixture not shown.
With the screw plug thus connected up with in cross section the concave metal plate which is perforated for the passage of the bristles and which is secured to the bristle face of the brush by having the edges of the plate fit into dovetail seats .9 formed by turning over the edge of the brush.
It will be apparent that when duly heated adapted for quick detachment from the electric connection on a wall, chandelier, or elsewhere, by unscrewing the screw plug 12, and can then be used for treating the hair of a customer when seated at any convenient place in a room, or shop, or when lying down at a place remote from the c0nnection.
My invention is well adapted for the purpose for which it is intended and is a very useful and convenient device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire by Letters Patent to secure is:
An electric brush for drying hair comprising a hollow body having a metal plate of convex surface and fitted into the open face of the body and held in place by the overturned edge of the body; bristles fitted into the convex face of themetal plate with their free outer ends forming the working surface of the brush; a tubular handle adapted to be screwed into the end of the body of the brush, a metal core extending through the handle into the body of the brush, a plug secured in the outer end of the handle, and a heating element formed of resistance wires passing through the plug into the core to heat the body of the brush and the convex plate carrying the bristles, a second plug to which the outer ends of the resistance wires are fastened and which is adapted to be screwed onto a wall socket to obtain the current for transmission to the bristles, all as and in the manner substantially as described and shown. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 10th dayof February, 1921.
HELEN R. MONDY.
in the manner above described my brush is a
