Description

W. T. NICHOLSON.
PACKAGE FOR-8ELT HOOKS.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 6,1920.
Patented 0013. H, 1921.;
NIoHoL'soN, subject of the King mum rinrononson, or snncxroon ENe Ann.
'To all whom z't may concern: 7 I Be it known that I, WILLIAM THOMAS of Great Britain andIreland, andresident of Blackpool, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain Improvements 1n Packages j for Belt-Hooks, of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to improvements 1n packages for'belt hooksusedin joining dr ving belts together so that they may be readily packed and be in a positionto be placed d1- rectly into the'tool employed for forcing the hooks into the ends of the belts, the object being to provide an improved arrangement of device by which the hooks may be spaced to P the required pitch or distance apart from each other to agree with the pitch or spacing of the grooves formed in thetool which is employed to hold them while being pressed into the ends of the belt.
My invention. relates to the type of device comprising a sheet of paper, cardboard or the like provided with a number of slots to receive the looped ends of the belt hook and consists in animproved arrangement of y the paper or like sheet combined with means for holding the hooks in the spacedposition until required for use. My invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing in WlllCll,
Figure 1, is a side elevation of the hold ing means arranged in accordance with my invention.
ljig. 2, developed plan of same from thev inside,
Fig. 3, end elevation of the holder and hooksin the finished state,
Fig. 4, rear elevation of the holder in its folded form, and i Fig. 5, section on line 5-5 of Fig. 3 but slightly enlarged showing the position of the hook within the holder.
In carrying out my inventlon I employ a sheet of paper, flexible card-board or like Specification of Letters Patent.

distances apart in accordance with the gage of the tool in which the hooks are subsequently placed. These slots are sufiiciently long to allow the looped ends 6 of the hooks to pass through them as shown in Fig. 3, so as to leave suiiioient space between the inside of the loops and the outside of the paper to allowof the usual pin for holding the hooks in position in the slotted holding tool to be passed therethrough to hold them in position while their pointed ends are being pressed well known way. The slots keep the looped ends properly spaced but in order that the arms of the hooks shall be kept in position parallel to each other I secure to the sheet a two narrow strips of corrugated paper or other suitable material 7, such corru-v gated strips allowing the hook arms to lie in the corrugations as will be seen clearl from Fig. 5. As already indicated the ends of the paper a are overlapped as shown in Fig. 3 and are secured together by gum or other suitable mucilage so that the paper entirely surrounds the hooks.
The series of hooks thus held and supported can be packed for transit and always remain in the position stated. They are a ready to be placed with their looped ends in the holding tool and immediately the usual wire pin. of the latter has been passed through the loops as aforesaid, the paper of the hooks can be cut longitudinally or be torn away to allow of the passage of the belt end into the body of the hooks. On the other hand I may secure to the inner face of one end of the paper sheet a a strip of strong paper 9 arranged to project at one end as shown in Fi s. 2 and 4:, such end enabling the paper to e torn away quite easily. The projecting end of the strip 9 may be formed with a series of perforations a little distance away from the ends of the sheet a so allowing of easy tearing away of the paper and, if required, the sheet a. may be provided with an integral tab instead of the projecting end of I would have it understood that my in vention comprises the use of a single thick flexible card so cut away at one surface as at h Fig. 1, as to leave narrow projecting portions which can have grooves formed in them similar to the corrugations of strips 7 y u table to l so as to act in the sam way as, such corrugated strips. I am aware that a thin strip of metal or other suitable material provided with slots to engage the looped ends of thehooks and having corrugated portions to pass over but not in front of the hooks and held in position on this latter by a pin has previously been proposed but I do not claim such an arrangement.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A'package-for wire belt hooks comprising-'asheet of flexible material provided with a' series of slots into which the looped. ends of thebelt hooks can be placed, separate strips'of corrugated sheet material so positioned'and attached to-the said sheet adjacent to the said .slots as to allow the corrugations to receivev the arms of the hooks when the-same are positioned within said slots, and ends on said sheet material adapt- V sition within the package.
2. A package for wire belt hooks comprising a sheet of flexible material provided at its middle part with a series of parallel slots for receiving the looped portions of the belt hooks, series of parallel guides for the arms of the hooks arranged at the ends of the said slots and operating to prevent the arms from moving sidewise, and end portions on the said sheet material adapted to be folded around the ends of the hooks and secured so as to hold the'hooks in position within the package.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of one witness.
W'. T. NICHOLSON.
