VALVE FOR WATER TANKS. APPLICATION FILED lULY28, 1920.
- 0N0 Lmmm a; A a m/411 11 invention by the OTTO LINSTADT, OF MADISON, NEBRASKA.
VALVE FOR WATER-TANKS.
Application filed July 28,
To all whom it may concern.
lie it known that I, OTTO LINSTADT, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Madison. in the county of Madison and State of 'Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Valve for ater-Tanks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved valve for use in maintaining a constant level of water in 'tanksused for watering animals. I attain the object of my mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- I Figure 1. is a side elevation of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal partly in elevation.
Referring to the accompanying drawings there is illustrated a tank 1 having an inlet pipe 2, exteriorly threaded on its end and connected by sleeve 7 with a short extension pipe 18, on the end of which is releasably mounted the valve 4 which carries the washer I provide a long rod or stem 3 attached to valve 4 to keep the valve in place against the flowing water. Rigidly attached to opposite sides of sleeve 7 are L-shaped arms 6 to which a valve-controlling lever 8 is attached by means of pivot 10. Lever 8 has a downwardly curved end 9whioh rests on the top of valve 4 and controls movement of said valve. Lever 8 is provided with an opening- 17 at its end, to which are attached suitable links 16, 17 by which the lever is connected to a suitable float 15 by means oi which lever 8 is tilted to permit of the valve 4 allowing an inflow of water when the level of water in the tank 1 drops below a predetermined height. I provide a weight 14 inclosed within the metal strap member vertical section,
13 one end ofwhich is provided with parallel longitudinal slots 12 in its sides and which end engages on either side of the free end of valve-operating lever 8 and is ad justably attached to said lever by means of a bolt 11 which extend through slots 12 and through lever 8 and is releasably secured by a suitable thumb nut. This construction permits of the convenient adjustment of the Specification of Letters Patent.
of lever 8 in connection with the float 15.
The operation of the invention Wlll be apparent from the accompanying drawings.
The valve is adapted for use where there is 1 heavy pressure of water. It may, however, be adapted to different pressures by adjusting the position of the weight 14 relative to valve controlling lever 8 by means of the thumb-nut, and the slots 12 in strap 13. The end 9 of lever 8 engages the top of valve 4 to normally hold said valve seated on pipe 18 until the water in the tank is lowered thus lowering the float 15 and opening the valve to lot more water into the tank. The valve 4 is kept from getting out of place by means of the weight and rod 3 which extends some distance into the pipe 2 as illustrated in Fig. 1.
What I claim is:
1.' In combination with a water tank having an inlet pipe an extension pipe, a threaded sleeve connecting the inlet pipe and the extension pipe, arms fixed to the sleeve, a valve controlling lever pivotally mounted on said arms, a weight member adjustably connected to the valve controlling lever, a float connected to the valve controlling lever, a valve releasably mounted on the free end of the extension pipe, and a long red fixed to said valve and extending into the inlet pipe to keep the valve from becoming misplaced under the pressure of water whereby the valve will be automatically closed by the rise of water in the tank and opened when the water in the tank drops below a predetermined height.
2. In a valve of the class described, the combination of an inlet pipe, a valve releasably seated on the free end of said pipe,
attached to the valve and depending into the pipe to prevent displacement of the valve, a valve controlling lever pivotally mounted above and having one end in operative engagement with the valve. an adjustable weight operatively connected lever, substantially as described.
OTTO LINSTADT.
to regulate the operation
