Be it known that l, ERNEST O. R. Knnssn,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Heels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvement in heels of that type consisting of a body of wood; having a cloth or celluloid jacket thereon, and top lift made of leather, metal preferably of aluminum or other material secured to the lower face of the wooden body, and the primary object of the invention is to admit of the wooden body, being efi'ectively reinforced against lateral strain so that the body will not become broken.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel type of fastening means for securing the heel on the shoe.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel fastening means for detachably securing the top lift to the wooden .portion of the heel so as to admit of the top lift being easily removed when worn, so that a new top lift may be substituted therefor.

A still further'object of the invention is the provision of a novel type of protector 1 plate adapted to be interposed between the wooden body and the top lift, so as to prevent the wearing of the lower portion of the jacket, should the top lift become accidentally detached from operative position.

Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is-a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates the heel portion of a shoe, and 2 a shoe heel which consists of a wooden body designed to be incased within a cloth, leather, or celluloid jacket, and 3 indicates the top lift which is detachably associated with the lower portion of the wooden body of the heel. The wooden body portion ofthe heel is provided with a 1011- gitudinally extending bore, which receives a cylindrical shaped element 4, which serves as a reinforcement for the heel so as to prevent the latter from becoming broken under lateral strain. The cylindrical shaped element 4 is hollow, and has its upper end flattened, a shown at 5, and countersunk in the upper side of the wooden portion of the heel, so as to prevent the cylindrical element 4 from having downward longitudinal movement within the bore when in the'position shown. The innersurfac'e of the cylindrical element l is threaded at the opposite ends of the element, and a screw 6 extends through the sole of the shoe and is threadedly received by the upper end of the cylindrical element 4:. It is evident that various changes might be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scopeof the invention, as claimed.
