Antenatal) tooomo'rrvn-connnnsnn.
To all whom it may, concern lile it known that I, Finsninn Itnrxos'rnoir, chief engineer, subject of the King of dwe- 'eden, have'invented certain new and usefu Improvements in Air-Cooled LocomotiveCo11- densers, of which the following is a specification.
Heretofore, the air-coolers as used in locomotives have been generally fitted only with some type of catching screens for taking in the air-draft produced by the locomotive running forward. As in this manner a sullicient circulation of air cannot be obtained, air pumps or fans have been tried, but with unsatisfactory results owing to the unfavorable location allotted to the fans.
The present invention has for its object to dispose the" fans of air-cooled condensers in such manner that'sufiicient circulation of 4 the airy will be attained with as little loss of energy as possible.
'The invention consists in the use of at least two fans located beside each other in the longitudinal direction of the condenser so as to be caused to operate in parallel with one another. In a preferable embodiment of the invention, the fans are horizontally arranged and situated between the receiving receptacle and the air cooled condensegolo-s. cated thereabove in such manner that the air is forced upwardly past the condenser.
In the accomiianying drawing two embodiments of the invention are shown diagrammatically and by way of example.
Figure l is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 a cross section of one embodiment, pro vided with horizontal fans. igs. 2-5 anddin like manner illustrate a modification with vertical fans.
In all of the figures, 1 denotes the receptacle for steam and water of condensation, and 2 is the condenser through which the cooling air is forced by the fans 3 in the direction indicated by the arrows. In accordance with the invention, there are a Specification of Letters Patent.

plurality of fans operating in each other.
The steam is introduced into the receptacle .7. from the driving steam engine through a connecting pipe in the embodiment according to Figs. 1 and :2, the fans are arranged between the receptacle the same being driven by means of shafts 4 from a common shaft 5 which is driven from the locomotive shafts in. any suitable manner, or from a separate motor. The fansof Figs. 3 and 4 may be driven in the same manner.
With this arrangement of the fans a very uniform and active .air circulation is obtained, and the losses of energy are comparatively small, as the air is not led through any long piping, the same, on the contrary, being allowed to absorb heat during almost the whole, of its passage through the condenser.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1-- L'In an air-cooled locomotive-condenser the combination of a receptacle arranged to receive steam from the steam engine,.an air cooled condenser placed outside said receptacle and connected with the same, and fans adapted to drive the air through the condenser and to bring it into contact with the walls of the receptacle.
In an air-cooled locomotive-condenser the combination of a receptacle arranged to receive steam from the steam engine, an air cooled condenser placed outside said reccptacle and connected with the same, and fans adapted to drive the air first along the walls of the receptacle and then through the aircooler.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence o\ f two witnesses. H
