.J. HERZOG.
FILING CABINET.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 17-, 1919,
Patented Sept 27, 1921.
11 Inventor UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HERZOG, or SAGIN'AW, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR 'IO SONORA PHONOGRAPH con- PORATION, A CORPORATION on NEW YORK.
FILIN G-CABIN ET.
To all whom it concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Hnnzoc, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Saginaw, county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, United States of America, have inventedfa certain new and useful F fling-Cabinet, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to filing cabinets for talkingmachine disk records, and more particularly to that type of, cabinet in which each individual record is carried in an envelop. A plurality of such envelops is carried in a rod in such a manner that each envelop may be separately tilted to give access to. the record contained therein. A second rod passes through all of the envelops and acts as a stop to limit the pivotal movement of the envelops.
One object of my invention is to provide means whereby the envelops may be removed from the cabinet, or new ones placed therein without dismantling the cabinet. A further object is to provide means whereby the exterior of the cabinet, or the rack carrying the envelops will not be marred by the deviceswhich permit of the removal of the envelops.
A further object of'the invention isto produce a device of the character described, Which is extremely simple in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, and inexpensive to manufacture. a I With these andotherobjects in view to be more fully set forth hereinafter, the invention consists in the novel construction, combinationjof elements, and arrangement of parts which will beexemplified in the construction hereinafter described in the specification and illustratedin the accompanying drawings considered together or separately. The inventive idea involvedis capable of receivinga variety of mechanical expres sions, one of which for the purpose of illus trating the invention, is shown in'the' accompanying drawings. The .inventionwill be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings,
wherein similar reference characters are. used Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 27, 1921. 1919. Serial No. 304,761. A
to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then more defined and indicated claims.
In the drawings,-
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a rack for carrying a pluraltiy of envelops, embodying my invention; a Fig. 2' is a section Fig. 1, looking in the row;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section'on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 isa side elevation of a clip;
Fig. 6 is a detail view of a portion of the device. a
In carrying out my invention, a rack comprising a top member tom member 2, and side members A partition 5 is employed,
specifically in the appended on the line 2-2 of direction of the ar- I provide 1, a bot- 3 and 4. and be- 3 and 4 central tween the partition 5 and the sides records may be subdivided into classes.
I desire to have it understood that instead of providing a separate rack as above described, the top and bottom members, and the partitions, may be secured in the talking machine cabinet, in which case the side walls of the cabinet will take the place of the members 3 and 4.
Carried on the inside of each side memher, at the lower front side thereof, is a clip 7 The clips are formed of sheet metal, and each is provided with a pair of keyholes 8. The smallerend of each keyhole is counterbored for the reception ofthe head 9 of a screw 10, by means of which the clips are secured in place.
One side of the clip is offset as at 11, and there are two open slots 12, and 13, in the offset portion. The slots are in alinement with perforations 14 and 15, in the central partition 5.
Carried in the slots 12 and the perforations 14, is a pivoted rod composed of two sections 16 and 17; and a stop rod composed of two sections 18 and 19 is carried in the slots 13 and perforation loosened, the clip 7 is moved forward until the heads 9 of the screws are opposite the enlargements of the keyholes. The clip may then be removed as the rods are free of the slots 12 and 13. The ends of the rod sections may now be removed from the openings or bearings in the partitions 5, and all of the envelops on those rod sections may be removed bodily from the rack.
The screws will remain in the side mem- 'bers 3 and 4, and there will be no danger of their becoming lost or mislaid.
The envelope may be replaced inthe rack by reversing the above described operation.
When the device 1s in actual use, the rods 16, 17 18, and 19, are prevented from slipping out of the open slots 12 and 13, as the members 6 are provided at their lower extremity with a cut-away portion, so that these members 6 fit almost directly behind the rods, and thus prevent backward motion. Thisis clearly illustrated in Fig; 1, as the members 6 are shown in dotted lines, where the rods pass in front thereof.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statute, I have described the principle of my invention together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire it understood that my invention is not confined to the particular form of apparatus herein shown and described, the same being merely illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out in other ways without departing from the spirit of my invention, and
therefore, I claim broadly the right to employ all equivalent instrumentalities coming within the scope of the appended claims, and by means of which objects of my invention are attained, and the new results accomplished, as herein set forth, as it is obvious that the particular embodiment herein shown and described is only one of many that can be employed to attain these objects and accomplish these results.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
