"W LI e A HEa'W QD, r mimlrrmxcnman iwa'rnammn rlvaLvn FOR rniirsnme-mnxs. I
To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I WILLIAM :SHnIiwoon,'
citizen of the United tates, residiillg H v lchigan,
troit, county of Wayne, State of have invented a certain new and useful 'Irnprovement in W'ater-Inlet Valves for F lushing-Tanks, and declare th'e following to bej a full, clear and exactdescription of the same, such as will enable vothers sk lled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to theiaccompany ing drawings, which form apart of this ip s ie Z f f inventionrelates to an improvement in water inlet valves for flushingftanks shown in the accompanying drawings" and more particularly described specification and claims. to 1 a One object of this invention is to provide a device which shall be inexpensive simple inconstruction and operation andadapted' to be regulated .to control the delivery of 'water'under various pressures.
A further object of my invention is w r' videa positive cut-oifYagainst further deuntil itis again emptied.
livery of water to the tank when refilled,
. A further object is to provide a device e a mtO theFafter-fiIl pipe K, leading tothe;
which iscnoiseless: in its action.
With the foregoing andother objects in view which will" appear as the description proceeds the invention further resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed; it; being nnderstood that changes may be made in the precise'embodis ment of the invention herein disclosedwith out departing from-the spirit of the same.
In the drawings accompanyingthis speci fication: j d
. Figure 1 is a longitudinal VQIillCtthSGG tional view through a flushing tank showing the inlet valve mechanism in the position it would appear when the water has reached its maximum altitude in the tank and in dotted lines the position of the float lever when the water has been discharged from the tank. f
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view of the inlet valve in the position occupied'when closed. f a
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view of the inlet valve when open to admit water into the tank.
Specifieation o f'ietters Patentlf a in the following tween an annularfla'nge e, valve body ."and a screw threaded plug- Qvalve chamber.
Fig. tis ahorizontal cross sectional View takenon or about line 44 ofiFig. 2.
Iatented Sept; 2'7, 1 921. I .ip ua o area October to, 1920. Serial No. 420,767.
Referring nowto the letters of reference placed upon the drawingsz Y A, denotes 'afiushing tank of the usual construction.- B, is a discharge valve, its operating mechanism being Q indicates theusual overflow pipe. D, denotes a water inlet pipe extending upwardly from the bottom F, is a, reciprocating tubular valve memis screwedaflaring nozzle or valve G, adapted to be seated against a disk H heId benut .j v J, is a leather cup-washer held between a flange-g, formed on the. flaring nozzleor ing tubular valve member F;
valve, and the end wall f, of the reciprocat- L,' is a forked member slotted to receive the trunnions, ,E formed integral with the housed'in the valvechamher, into which 6O broken ajway of the present I of the'tank and upon the upper vend of the pipe is mounted the valve body E, of arwater inlet valve, v
integral with the 1 a a F aretransversedischargeportstformedi; ln'the Wallof themember 'F to direct water valve body E onff ewhich the forkedv memberv oscillates."
reciprocating tubular ,valve member F, through apertures provided in the forked N, is a rod screwed into the forked member on which is mounted a float N R,- is an adjustable screw projecting downwardly through an ear formed in the valve casingadapted to bear upon an arc-shaped lug L integral with the forked member L,
l by adjusting which the tilting action of the float rod may be regulated.
Having thus indicated the several parts by reference letters the constructionand op-' M, M, are set screws extending into the f member may be formed intef eration of the device will be readily understood.
The water in the tank is discharged by lifting the valve B from its seatin the. usual manner. Upon the Water being discharged from the tank the float N will assume the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1,
thereby shifting the reciprocatingtubularvalve member F 10 'to the position indicated in Fig. 8. e
It will now be apparent that Water entering the valve chamber from the'pipe D, will flow over the disk H, out through the valve or nozzle Gr, and-through the reciprocating tubular valve member'R'to a pipe S, con
nected with the valve member, and thereby into the "tank:the water for the usual after-fill passing out through the transverse ports F 'to the pipe K, and thence to the overflow pipe C.
Upon the Water in thetank reaching suflicient altitudeto raise the float N to the position indicated in fulllines in Fig. 1 the reciprocating valve member'will assume the position indicated in Fig. 2 -the valve or flaring nozzle being seated against the disk H, thereby cutting oil further flow o'f Water from the pipe D toth'e tank.
It will be noted that by adjusting the screw R the degree to which the reciprocating'tubular valve member F may be opened to admit Water to theta-11k can be regulated; Q
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: J
1.'In a device ofthe characterdescribed,
a flushing tank; avalve body in saidtank; a v reciprocating sleeve .111 said body; an
annular bell-shaped valve carried by said reciprocating sleeve; a disk valve-seat supported on an annular flange formed integral with .the valve body; a screw threaded plug screwed into the valve body to secure said disk valve-seat in position a cup washer supported between the bell-shaped valve and reciprocating sleeve; a float lever fulc'rumed upon trunnions'integral with the valve body,
and detachable means for connecting the float lever with the reciprocating sleeve adjacent to the fulcrum of the float lever.
2. In a device ofthe eharacterflescribed, a flushing tank; a valve chamber in said tank; a"-reciprocating V sleeve, having transverse ports; an annular valve having a flaring end, connected with said sleeve andadapted to be seated near the upper end of the valve chamber; a discharge pipe connected with the lower end of the reciprocating sleeve and opening into the tank; a
water inlet pipe connected with an inlet port opening into the valve chamber below the open flaring end of the valve; an after fill pipe leading from the valve chamber to deliver water passing through'the transverse ports of the re'criprocating sleeve to an overflowf pipe;and a float lever connected with the reciprocating sleeve and fulcrumed upon the valve chamber adjacent to its connection with the sleeve. q
Ina device of the character described;
a flushing tank; a valve body in said tank;
a reciprocating' sleevein saidbody; an annular-valve having a flaring end carried and the reciprocating sleeve; va float lever fulcrumedupon trunnions integralwith the valve body; and'a pair of "opposing set 1 screws carried' by the reciprocating sleeve iorwonnectingthe float lever with the re- 1 eiprocating sleeve adjacent to thefulcrum of the float lever. a
In testimony whereof, I 'this' cationin thepresence oftwo witnesses I f I WILLIAM snnnwoo'm
