To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH BASILE, a sub-- iect of the King of Italy, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification. 1

The invention relates to improvements in metal bedsteads, and itvhas reference more particularly to the corner fastenings thereof or the means by which the main bed-frame or mattress section is detachably connected at its corners with the posts of the head and foot frames. The head and foot frames have tubular corner posts which are preferably square or rectangular in cross-section, and these posts are each equipped with two rigid slotted hook-members, one being adapt-v ed to receive the lower end of the vertical outer portion of the end rails of the main frame, and the other being ofi'set inwardly from the inner edge of the post and adapted to receive the vertical flange of the end rail adjacent to the vertical end portion of said rail. The end rails of the mainframe are connected by angle-iron side rails and receive the ends of the spring or metallic mattress, and said end rails are formed of angle iron and comprise a transverse rail portion and downwardly extending end portions, the lower ends of said end portions being supported in and held by the lower hook-members of the corner posts, and said rail portions having their vertical flange, inwardly from th said end portions, caught within and held bythe upper hook members secured to the corner posts.

My invention seeks to provide a very simple and durable three-piece bed construction and one in which the mattress supporting frame maybe very readily andsecurely connected with and separated from the head and foot frames of the bedstead. I

The invention will be fully understood from the detailed description hereinafter presented, reference being had to the accom-' panying drawings, in which: 1

In the drawings, 10 designates a head or foot frame, both being alike, having corner posts 11 and suitable connecting bars, as 12, as usual, said corner posts being tubular and preferably square in cross-section. Each cornerpost of the head and foot frames has secured to it an upper hook or fastening member 13 and a lower hook or fastening member 14, as illustrated in Fig. 4, said members 13, 14 each being formed of a plece of iron bent at a right angleto form a front section 15 and a plate base section 16. The front section 15 of the upper member 13 is formed with a verticaltransverse recess or'slot 17, and the front member 15 of the lower fastening. member 14 is formed with a transverse recess or slot 18, said slots corresponding with each other and being open at their upper ends. The plate members 16 of the corner fastenings 13, 14 are secured by spotwelding against the inner face of the corner-posts 11 of the head and foot frames, the spot welding being. indicated at 19. The spring or the mattress supporting member of the bedstead is composed of two angle-iron side rails 21 and two end frames 22 which are of angle iron shape in cross-section and composed of atransverse end rail 23 and vertical members 24 which are integral with and project downwardlyfromthe ends of the end rails 23. The corner fastenings 13,14 are. each in one integral rigid piece and, arranged as described, rigidly support the mattress carrying frame and permit of the ready assembly of said frame'with the head and foot: frames. The construction of bed presented by me is one of great durability and capae b'le of ready construction, and the parts thereof maybe readily assembled and disassembled without undueeifort.

Vhat I claim as my inventionand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

bers being offset from the sides of the posts 7 and slotted to receive the end portions of said end rails adjacent to .the inner edges of said downwardly extending members thereof.

3. A bedstead comprising-head and foot frames and a main'mattress supporting 7 frame consisting of .side rails andend rails having at their ends downwa'rdlyextending members secured to saidside rails, said,head andfoot frames having corner .posts and upper and lower corner-fastening members secured to said posts. the lower fastening members being adapted-to receive and support the lower ends of said downwardly extending members of said end rails and :said upper fastening members being offset from e d s of-the postsiagd slotted to receive the end portions of said end rails adjacent to the inner edges of said downwardly extending members thereof.

4. A bedstead comprising head and foot frames and a main mattress supporting frame consisting of side rails and end rails having at their ends downwardly extending members secured to said side rails, said: head and foot frames having cornerposts and upper and lower members secured to said posts, the lower members being recessed to receive the lower ends of said downwardly extending members of said end rails and the upper members being offset from the sides of the posts and recessed to receive the end portions of said end rails adjacent to the inner edges of said downwardly extending members thereof.
