Description

M. FORD.
BOW NECKTIE FASTENER. APPLICATION FILED oclzz. 1919.
Ptendspt. 20,1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX FORD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOW-NECKTIE FASTENER.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in bow necktie fasteners, and has .for its object the provision ina bow necktie of means for securing the same to a soft collar.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The vinvention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l, is a perspective View of my in vention,
Fig. 2, is a rear elevational View of my invention,
Fig. 3, is a side elevational view of the pin used in my invention, and
Fig. 4, is a sectional View of the pin used in my invention. l 30 i My invention is designed to be used for securing the usual ready-made bow necktie to a soft collar, that is, a collar which is not starched. In the usualV ready-made bow necktie. wings are provided, which are usually reinforced by some material such as cardboard, these reinforced wings being inserted between thefolds of the stiff or starched collar.- Suitable means is provided for securing'the tie to the collar button. In my invention, the material which is used to reinforce the wings is dispensed with. The collar with which my invention is designed primarily for use is usually provided with button holes in each of the outside folds to afford a means of pinning these folds together with a suitable safety or clasp pin. Where a tie having reinforced wings is to be Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 20, 1921.
Application led October 22, 1919. Serial No. 332,454.
used with a soft collar, the reinforced wings would cause the collar to bulge outwardly, inasmuch as the wings of the tie when reinforced are flexed so as to assume an arcuate or curved form by the folds of a stiff collar. In my invention the pin which secures the yfolds of the soft collar together is also utilized to secure the tie in position.
The approved form of construction com-` prises the usual ready-made bow tie 5, having soft or pliable wings 6 extending laterally from either side of a centrally positioned band 7. Positioned between the band 7 and the main body of the tie is the back portion 8 of a safety pin, formed torsional at one end 9 to form a spiral portion to present resiliency to the front or pin portion 10 of the clasp, so that the end of the same may be held in engagement when in operative position with a suitable stop 11.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.y
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is y A ready-made bow tie having a centrally positioned band; and a clasp pin detachably positioned between the body of said tie and said band, adapted for detachably securing said tie to a soft collar and for connecting the adjacent ends of one of the folds of said collar, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification vin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX FORD.
