To all whom it mag camera? Be it known that I, SOLOMON CANTOR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Broom-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in broom holders, an object of the invention being to provide an improved holder which is adapted for supporting a double-ended broom which permits the ready insertion or removal of the broom and also the reversal of the broom.

A further object is to provide a broom holder which supports a double-ended broom in operative position, which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price, which will be strong and durable in use, and which will securely maintain the broom in gperative position when in the holder.

ith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation, partly broken away, illustrating my improved broom holder with my improved doubleended broom therein.

Fig. 2 is a view in longitudinal transverse section through the center of the broom holder and broom.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary edge view.

My improved broom holder comprises a hollow sheet metal casing 1 open at its lower end and preferably closed throughout its top and at one side or one end, as shown at 2, the opposite end constituting a movable gate 3 which is hingedly connected at its upper end, as shown at 4, and provided with a pair of locking levers These levers 5 are hingedly connected to the gate 3 by means of brackets 6 and each lever comprises a single wire bent intermediate its ends forming a fingerhold 7 and at its ends const1tuting angular locking fingers 8 which are adapted to be positioned in sleeves or keepers 9 fixed to the front and rear faces or sides of the casing 1, and hold the gate in closed position.

It will be noted that the sleeves or keepers 9 are at aslight angle to the longitudinal plane of the casing and the looking fingers 8 fit within said sleeves or keepers and exert somewhat of a cam action. to the locking levers, so as to securely hold the gate in closed position and prevent accidental open-' ing during the operation of the broom.

The casing 1 is preferably corrugated for strength and provided wuth longitudinal strengthening webs 10 and may be cut out as shown at 11 for lightness without affecting the strength, of the holder.

t will be noted that the webs 10 extend across the openings 11 and entirely around the upper end of the holder, thereby giving material strength to the holder to withstand the rough usage to which such a device is necessarily put.

The casing 1 is made with a handle receiving socket 12 in which a handle 13 is secured by rivets 14 or other desired securing means. 15 represents my improved double-ended broom which is provided at its intermediate portion with a metal clamp 16 clamping the two portions of the broom together, and this metal clamp or band 16 is provided with a pair of parallel laterally offset webs 17 which are adapted to receive between them inwardly projecting enlargements or tracks 18 in the lower portion of the holder to secure the broom in operative position in the holder.

The operation of the device is as follows: lVhen it is desired to insert the broom 15 into the holder, the gate 3 is released and swung to open position. The broom is then inserted edgewise through the open edge or end of the broom holder with the webs 17 located above and below the enlargements or tracks 18. The broom can then he slid into place and the gate 3 closed and locked by means of its lockin levers 5, as above explained. WVhen it is esired to reverse the broom, the gate 3 can be opened, the broom removed, reversed, and reinserted.

It is, of course, to be understood that the webs 17 are so positioned as to afford a neat and snug engagement with the tracks 18, so that there will be practically no independent movement of the broom within the holder, and hence, the broom will operate as any ordinary broom and is capable of reversal to lengthen the life of the broom.
