Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 19, 1919. Serial No. 312,028.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLPHUs E. BAY- REUTHER, citizen of United States, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptaole-Closure Devices, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
his invention relates to improvements in receptacle or jar closure devices and the object of same is to provide a means for 010s ing receptacles or glass jars and the like which may be readily applied and removed.
A further object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device as described which will make a tight and effective seal when in place.
These objects are attained by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side view, in elevation, of the closure device applied to a jar; the jar being shown with the lower portion broken away, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the device and upper portion of a receptacle and is shown removed from the jar.
Referring to the parts, 1 designates a cup shaped member formed with an annular flange 2 to conform to the upper edge 3 of a vessel 4. The annular flange is preferably formed with cut-out or serrated portions 5 to provide flexibility and are slightly inturned at 6 to-retain in position a packing ring 7.
The packing ring is preferably made of paper which has previously been dipped in paraffin and which is adapted to snugly engage the beveled annular surface 8 formed upon the vessel.
A suitable paraflined washer 9 is embedded in the cup shaped member and is adapted to engage the upper edge of the vessel and is held tightly against same by the engagement of the serrated inturned sections against a contracted portion 10 formed upon the vessel.
The flexibility of the serrated edge allows easy attachment to and removal from va receptacle or vessel and when attached a device of the form shown assures a perfect seal and closure.
It is obvious that modifications may be embodied without departing from the spirit of this invention and it is therefor intended not to confine this invention to the particular construction shown.
What 1s claimed 1- 1. In a closure device for receptacles, a cup shaped member, a flexible annular edge formed thereon, and a flexible and resilient sealing ring held within and adapted to be compressed by the flexible annular edge.
2. The device of claim 1 in which the flexible and resilient sealing ring is parafiined.
3. In a closure device for receptacles, a cup shaped member, a serrated edge formed thereon and a gasket ring held within the serrated edge.
