UNITED STATES WILLIAM B. PRAYTOR, OF MOUNT PLEASANT, TEXAS.
`snoweasis on SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented sept. e, 1921.
Application led September 1, 1920. Serial No. 407,290.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WTLLTAM B. PRAYTOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Pleasant, inthe county of Titus and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Showcase or Screen, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to provide a simple means whereby pictures and the like may be displayed from a cabinet, the construction being such that the pictures or other articles will be housed from the dust, when not in use, it being possible to open out the cabinet to render all of the pictures visible.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices ot that type to which the invention appertains.
lith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combil nation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, the same being opened; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan wherein the cabinet is shown opened; and Fig. 3 is a cross section wherein the cabinet is shown closed.
The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a cabinet comprising -a lixed side 1, cut away at its lower end, as shown at 41,.to form legs 5. A back 2 is provided and extends from the side 1 to an end post 3 extended downwardly to form a leg 6. A bottom 7 extends between the fixed side 1 and the end post 3 and is out away as indicated at 8, adjacent to the end post 3. The numeral 9 marks a top extended between the fixed side 1 and the end post 3, the top 9 being cut away as indicated at 10, in alinement with they place where the bottom 7 is cut away as Shown at 8.
The numeral 11 denotes a movable side, located opposite to the Xed side 1 and connected by hinges 12 to;the post 3 which may be consideredas a part ofthe back of the cabinet. A door 14 is hinged at 15 to the outer edge of the movable side 11. The side 11 is extended to form a leg 1G having a caster 17. A horizontal upper plate 18 is secured at 19 to the movable side 11. The upper plate 18 is provided with a stop strip 20, received in the opening 10 of the top 9 and limiting the inward swinging movement of the side 11 when the side is swung to closed position. A lower plate 21 is secured to the side 11, as indicated at 50, and is cut away as shown at 22, to receive the end post 3, the lower plate being cut away at its rear edge, as indicated at 23. A leaf 24 is hinged at 25 to the post 3. Sockets 26 are formed in the upper plate 18 and in the lower plate 21, the sockets 26 being adapted to receive spindles 27 on leaves 28, there being any desired number of the leaves 28. i
In practical operation, the movable side 11 is swung on the hinges 12 until the movable side is approximately parallel to the back, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 1. All of the leaves 28, thus, are swung out of the cabinet, and may be examined readily. Since the bottom of the cabinet is cut away as indicated at 8, and since the top of the cabinet is cut away as shown at 10, access may be had to the leaves, when the leaves are swung out of the cabinet. When the cabinet is closed, the side 11 is swung on the hinges 12 into approximate parallelism with the fixed side 1, the door 14 being swung to a closed position, as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The upper plate 18 covers the opening 10 in the top 9, the rear or inner portion of the lower plate 21 closing the opening 8 and lying above the bottom 7.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a cabinet comprising a back, a fixed side, a. top and a bottom; a movable side hinged to the back and provided with outstanding top and bottom plates; a leaf mounted to swing in the top and bottom plates, the top and the bottom of the cabinet being cut away to give access to the leaf, and the top and bottom plates constituting closures for the cut away portions of the top and the bottom; and a door hinged to the movable side.
2. In a. device of the class described, a cabinet comprising a fixed side, a top, a bottom, and a back including an end post; a
movable side hinged to the end post; a top plate and a bottom plate oarriedbythe movable side; a leaf mounted to Swing in the top plater and the bottom plate, they top and the bottom of the Cabinet being out away to deiine openings giving access tothe leaf, and the top plate and the bottom plate constituting closures for the openings, the bottom plate being out awa-y to receive the end posts; and a doonhinged tothe mov- 10 able side. Y
In testimony that I Vclaim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aiiiXed my signa ture inthe presence of two Witnesses.
