Be it known that I, NIC KnUMr, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Chicago, county of4 Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in a Safety-Switch for a Suspended Two-Rail Track, of which the following, reference being had to the drawings accompanying and forming a part hereof, yis a specification.
This invention relates to a switch for a two-rail suspended track system, such as is usable in machine and other shops, factories and similar places, for transporting raw, Vfinished andfother material about said factories, etc.
Among the objects of this invention is to obtain a switch which is adapted to support heavy loads, topresent smooth track ways over which carriages having flanged wheels adapted to travel onja suspended two rail track may travel without noticeable jar; to obtain a switch of the kind namedfwhich is easily operated and not'liable to get out of order; and a switch which will not permit a carriage suitable to travel thereover, to run offtherefrom when the switch is not set to make a continuous line `for said carriage.

The members A J K form a triangular rigid construction which may be termed the base of the movable rail carrying members of the switch.
Member K is rigidly secured in place by bolts 7c lc to a suspending beam, as X, and said member K is provided with a rail member; (L), on which rail the roller M of the about to be described movable endof ythe switch travels, as the switch is operated;L

The member K hereinbefore referred to supports the several chair members Q1 Q1 Q1. which are secured to said member K by bolts g1 g1'. One end of the yswitch rails H H is securediny the chair member Q and the end of the-several rails 'R R which extend fromr the switch are secured in vchair Q1.

lV represents a cable by means of which' traveling member N is moved to the right or left as required. N1 represents a bolt which is yieldingly held in an advanced position by spring 72 and W3 73, Figs. 1 and 2, represent recesses on the side of track member L in which recesses the forward end of boltVV1 is yieldingly held by spring VZ. The entering of said end of said bolt into said recess advises the person operating cable IV that the switch is properly set.`
To operate the switch it is merely necessary to manipulate cable W to move traveling member N, to the right or left (pulley ll3 traveling on rail L), until the bolt VV advises the operator that traveling member N is in proper position. At this time the safety members S S of the rails R R,to which the switch is set are raised" by means of cam V and longitudinally movable bolt U, into the position illustrated by full lines in Fig. 2 and the carriage on'the switch (rails H) may travel to rails R R, or vice versa, underneath said safety members S S.
W'here, as illustrated in Fig. 1, there are three tracks of double rails extending 'from one end of the switch, as the traveling vmember N is set for a given one of said tracks, the safety members S Swhichpertain to a given track is raised from and dropped back to the position indicated by brokenlines in Fig. 1 as traveling member N is set to and moved from the set position relative to said track.
It thus occurs that said safety 'members -S S are at no time in lposition to interfere with the travel of a carriage on rails H H,
such carriage at said time being movable' thereunder, while at all times any of said tracks4 formed by said rails R R, which are not continuous to the rails H H, are closed t0 the travel of a carriage thereon toward the switch by said members S S relating thereto resting thereon. f d
It will be observed, by reference to Figs."
2 and 4 that member F is provided with ak semi-circular flange,1f, at oneend thereof,
the upper faceof `said flange being in subare respectively provided withw a` single ange, on said rails,` with said flange on the outside thereof, (as indicated'by lines Y, Y, Fig. 1,) the rails H, H, may be turned ina horizontal plane, a considerable angular distance without breaking the continuity of rails B, B, and the switch rails H, H.
Iclaim:
1. In,r av safety switch for a suspended two rail Vtrack a vertical member rigidly secured on the underside of a supporting member, and providedr with a table and a base at. the lower endthereoffa horizontally disposed member provided with a semi-circular annular flange fulcrumed-on said table member in combination with rails secured to said base so that the ends thereof abut` against the curved outside of said semi circular flange, and additional rails secured to said fulcrumedmember so that the ends thereof abut againstthe ends of said semicircular flange, and traveling means to support the opposite ends of said last named rails.
2. In a switch for a suspended two rail track, a vertical lmember rigidly secured to the under side of a supporting member, and provided with a table and a base at the lower end thereof, a horizontally disposed member provided with a semicircular annular flange fulcrumed on said table member, rails secured to said-baseso that .the'ends thereof abut against the curved outside ofV said semicircular flange, and additional rails secured to said fulcrumed member so that the ends thereof abutagainst the ends of'said semicircular flange, in combination with traveling means to support the oppositeends of said last named rails, said traveling means comprising a rigidly mounted` track, a vertical member providedwith a base, apulley rotatably mounted on said vertical member adjacent tothe upper end thereof and arranged to travel on said track, and means to secure said opposite ends to said base.
3. In a switch for a suspended'two rail track, a vertical, member, provided with a l table and a base at thelower end thereof, a
horizontally disposed member provided with a semicircular iange fulcrumed on said table member, rails secured to said base with the ends thereofl arranged toabut against the curved outsidel of said semicircular flange, and additional rails secured to said fulcrumed member with the ends thereof arranged to abut against the ends of said semicircular flange, in combination with an additional vertical member provided with a base at the lower endthereof and a track adjacent to the upper A end', and a traveling member, a pulley Arotatably mounted onsaid traveling memberv andarrangedv to travel on said track, and means to secure the opposite ends of the rails 'secured to said fulcrumed member to said traveling member.
4. Ina two rail suspended switch, rails, a pivoted member provided with a semicircular liange, and means to secure said rails to said pivotedY member? so asto respectively abut against the ends of said flange, in combination with a rigidly secured member provided with a track and a traveling member provided with a base, a rotatably mounted pulley arranged to travel on said track and means to secure said rails to said base.
5. In a two rail suspended switch, rails, a pivoted member provided with a semicircular iange, and means to secure said rails to said pivoted member so as to respectively abut against the ends of said flange, in combination with a rigidly secured member provided with a track and a traveling member provided with a base, a rotatably mounted pulley arranged to travel on said track, meansrto secure said rails to said base, means, comprising a longitudinally movable bolt, means to yieldingly maintain said bolt in an advanced position, and said rigidly secured member provided with recesses arranged to co-act with said bolt.

In a two rail suspended switch, rails, a pivoted member provided with a semicircular flange, and means to secure said rails to said pivoted member so as to respectively abut against the ends of said lange, in combination with a rigidly secured member provided with a track and a traveling member provided with a base, a rotatably mounted pulley arranged to travel on said track, and means to secure said rails to said'base, longitudinally movable bolts yand pivotally mally rest, at the free ends thereof, on adjacent rails, and a cam member mounted on said traveling member and arranged to coact with said bolt and arms to raise said arms on the contact of said cam and bolt.
7. In a two-rail suspended switch, rails, a pivoted member provided with a semi-circular flange, and means to secure said rails to said pivoted member so as to respectively abut against the ends of said iange, in combination with a rigidly secured member provided with a track and a traveling member provided with a base, a rotatably mounted pulley arranged to travel on said track, means to secure said rails to said base, means, comprising a longitudinally movable bolt, means to yieldingly maintain said bolt in an advanced position, said rigidly secured member rovided with recesses arranged to co-act with said bolt, longitudinally movable bolts and pivotally mounted arms mountedV on said rigidly secured member, said arms arranged to normally rest, at the free ends thereof, on adjacent rails, and a cam member mounted on said traveling member and arranged to co-act with said bolt and arms to raise said arms on the contact of said cam and bolt.
