Description

1 F. GONDEIL SPARK PLUG CLEANER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 8,1920.
Patented Sept. 6, 1921.
. R N E v m ATT NEY,
.iosnrir r. .GONDERL or NEWARK, NEW JERSEY- SPARK-PLUG CLEANER.
To all whom it may concern: .7
Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. GONDER,-2L citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, county'of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Spark-Plug Cleaners, of which the following is a specification;
This .invention relates to animproved spark plug cleanerthat also can be used as a priming cup, the device comprising a handle to form a receptacle and having a blade in extension of its top edge, the blade being adapted to be turned in the under re,-
cess of a sparkvplug, and, having both edges sharpened, it loosens all deposits by a twirling back and forth ofthe device.
vThe receptacle which forms the handle catches the depositsso loosened, and it can also be used as a priming cup, since the curved blade acts as a spout for directing the small quantity of gasolene held in the handle toward the opening in the cylinder ormanifold where the fuel is inserted.
The device can be cheaply made and is compact, usually small enough to be classed as a vest pocket article. V
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a top view of the article, and Fig. 2 is a central cross-section of the same and also illustrating its application to a spark plug, which is i shown in dotted outline.
The device is usually made of sheet metal which is formed into an open-ended receptacle, thus providing a handle 10. This handle is provided with a blade 11, the blade being preferably integral with the cup, and, being slightly curved, acts as a spout for the cup, so that when the cup is used as a priming cup the fuel can be. directed along this spout to the opening in which the fuel is poured.
-The spout forms a blade which. is sharpened on its edges, preferably both side edges,

as at 12, so that the curved blade 11, which fits in the annular depression 13 in the average spark plug of commerce, can be twirled v or rotated back and forth in such depression and the deposits of carbon and the like are loosened and cut away from the body of the plug and deposited in the handle-10. A
The bottom edge 14: of the plug can be cleaned by using the blade 11 as an ordinary blade along this bottom edge, or the end 15 ofthe blade can be used. The end 15 is sharpened and isusually made straight, so
that a chisel motion can be utilized in, dislodging pieces that resist ordinary scraping.
The blade can also be inserted between the points of a spark plug and turned, or used as a lever for separating the points when such action is necessary. I prefer to providethe cup with serrations 16 so that r it is prevented from slipping in case grease or oil is present.
I claim:
in the fingers 1. A spark plug cleaner'comprising an open-ended receptacle forming a handle and having a curved blade extending from its edge and in extension thereof at the openend so that material cut by" the blade falls into the receptacle.
2. A-primingcup and spark plug cleaner comprising a sheet metal receptacle forming a handle, having a rigid curved blade in ex tension of itstop edge,"said blade having its two side edges sharpened.
3. A priming cup and spark plug cleaner comprising a sheet metal cylindrical receptacle forming a handle having a rigid curved blade in extension of its top edge, said blade 5 having its. end straight, the sides and end of the blade being sharpened;
.In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I
have hereto set my hand, this 7th day. of
JOSEPH F. eoNDEn.
