PAPER-GUSIIDOB HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Al lg. 23, 1921.
Application filed July 3, 1919. Serial No. 308,444.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEO Gr. SHARYON, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Little Falls, in the county of Morrison and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Paper- Cuspidor Holder, of which the following is a specification.
In factories and other buildings employing a large number of workers it frequently occurs that, 'for sanitary reasons, cuspidors constructed of paper are used so that when once used they may be discarded. However, owing to the characteristic weakness of paper and like materials the cuspidors are easily and frequently crushed and thus rendered useless and unsanitary.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a simple and efficient holder for cuspidors of this character which is constructed of metal or other material having a requisite degreeof strength and rigidity to withstand the rough treatment to which itis subjected during use and thus maintain the cuspidor in proper shape. 1
Another object is the provision of a holder of this character which facilitates quick and convenient removal of the cuspidor there'- from, when necessary.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents a top plan of the holder,
.Fig. 2 represents a broken sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 represents a similar sectional view of a modified type of holder.
Referring to the drawing in detail, where in similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views the numeral 5 indicates a conventional type of paper cuspidor, which as usual consists in the four upwardly and outwardly inclined side walls and the imperforate bottom 6.
The improved holder consists of a circular body 5 preferably constructed of sheet metal and of adequate height to support the imperforate bottom 6 of the paper cuspidor in elevated position with relation to the floor or other object upon which the holder 5 is 7 arranged. The lower edge of the circular body 5 is turned outwardly and upwardly as at 6 in order that the cuspidor may be easily moved across the floor or other support and the turned edge provides a circular channel for receiving and retaining such liquid as may be accidentally directed against the circular body 5. The upper edge of the circular body is formed with four equidistant V-shaped recesses '7 in which the corners of the paper cuspidor 5 are received, thus supporting the cuspidor in elevated position and preventing it from turning within the holder.
Referring to Fig. 3 of the drawing wherein a modification of the improved holder is illustrated the numeral 10 indicates the circular body of the holder provided with the outturned bottom'edge 11 and having four groups or pairs of slits 12 extending downwardly from the top edge thereof. The material lying between the slits of each group is directed downwardly and inwardly as at 13 providing a support for the bottom of the cuspidor, the corner portions of which project through the spaces between the slits 12 and thus prevent accidental turning of the cuspidor within the holder.
From the foregoing, it is evident that both types of holders will effectively protect the paper cuspidor against crumpling or other injury thereto incident to being struck when in use.
Although the recesses in the'sides of the cuspidor holders are especially provided for the reception of the corners of rectangular or polygonal paper cuspidors it will be readily appreciated that the device may be uti-. lized with equal efficiency in receiving and supporting cuspidors of circular form and therefore do not desire to be limited as to the particular type of paper cuspidor tobe tangular form comprising a circular body member adapted to receive a cuspidor, downwardly and inwardly directed supporting v -members struck from the top edge of the body member to engage beneath the bottom wall of the cuspidor, the struckout portions of the body forming a plurality of recesses V in the top edge thereof adapted to accommodate the corners of the cuspidor to prevent accidental displacement of the latter relato form recesses adapted to accommodate the tive to the holder. corners of the cuspidor to prevent accidental 2. A holder for paper cuspidorsv of recdisplacement of the latter relative to the 10 tangular form, comprising a circular body holder. t v V 5 member adapted to receive a cuspidor, the In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature vertical portion of said body member having hereto. a plurality of struck-out portions whereby LEO G.
