MOP-WRINGER.

To all whom it mag concern:

Be it known that I, NICHOLAS BAILHAOHE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Berkeley, county of Alameda, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Mop-\Vringer, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to mop wringing mechanism combined with mop bucket supporting means.

An. object of the invention is to provlde a wringer in which a single set of rollers may be shifted to cooperate with either one of a plurality of buckets.

Another object 'of the invention is to provide a mop wringing apparatus having a set of removable mop pails or buckets and which permits the removal of one of the buckets while the other is being engaged by the wringing mechanism.

A. further object of the invention is to mount the wringing apparatus and the buckets on a truck which is provided with a brake mechanism that facilitates the wringing operation.

The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following description of the preferred form of my invention which is illustrated in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the showing made by the said drawings and description, as I may adopt variations of the preferred form within the scope of my invention as set forth in the claim.

Referring to said drawings:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus, parts thereof being broken away to disclose the invention more clearly.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the apparatus.

Briefly expressed, my invention comprises a truck upon which are set a plurality of mop buckets that are arranged to be en gaged one at a time by mop wringing mechanism. Means are also provided for holding the truck stationary when it is desired to use the wringing mechanism.

A detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention follows:

The apparatus comprises a truck 3 which includes a frame 4 that is mounted on wheels 5. The frame 4 is provided with a rail 6 between which may be set a pair of mop pails or buckets 7 and 8 whose upper ends Specification of Letters Patent.

are formed with flanges 9 that are ada ted to rest on the top surface of the rail. 0th bucketsare substantially square in horizontal section so that a maximum capacity is afforded 1n the rectangular shaped frame shown 111 the drawings.

The mop wringing mechanism is of simple construction and as hereinbefore mentioned it is arranged to cooperate with either one of the buckets and when it cooperates with one bucket it is completely disengaged from the other bucket and permits the latter to be readily removed from the frame. The wringing attachment comprises the arms 12 which are arranged on both sides of the frame and preferably pivoted. thereto on a horizontal axis 13 that lies between the two buckets. Connecting the free ends 14L of the arms 12 and overlying the buckets is a roller 16 which is arranged to cooperate with a roller 17 mounted on the yoked lever 18 that is pivoted to the arms 12. The connection between the arms 12 and the lever 18 is such as to permit a slidable movement of one with respect to the other and in the present form of the invention the lever 18 is provided with a slot 19 that is engaged by a pin 21 secured to the arms 12.

.o explain the operation of the device, let it be assumed that it is desired to wring a mop over the bucket 7 the arms 12 and the lever 18 are placed in the position shown in the drawings; the stops 22 and 23 provided in frame serve to limit the movement of the arms and lever respectively so that the rol ers 16 and 17 are caused to overlie the bucket 7. The mop is then placed between the rollers and the free end 24. of the lever is swung to cause the roller 17 to cooperate with the roller 16 to permit the mop to be effectively wrung between them. If now it is desired to wring the mop over the bucket 8 it is merely necessary to lift the lever 18 until the roller 17 is raised over the roller 16 and lowered to lie upon the opposite side thereof, the entire wringing mechanism being then swung upon the pivot 13 until the steps 22' and 23 are encountered by the arms and lever respectively; the mop may then be placed between the rollers and the latter brought together as was done over the bucket 7. To shift the wringing mechanism back again to cooperate with the bucket 7, the foregoing steps are repeated in the reverse order.

It should be noted that when one of the buckets are being engaged by the wringing mechanism, the other bucket is free to be releaseda feature which adds much to the efiiciency of the device.

Means are provided for holding the frame stationary while the wringing operation is being effected. Pivoted to the upper portion of each end of the frame l :are feet 26 and 27 that extend downwardly and are normally pressed outwardly by a spring 28. The free end of thefeet are preferably bentoutwardly and areprovided with a shoe 29 formed of a comparatively soft material. The length of each foot is such that when it assumes a'substanti ally vertical position it causes the wheels lying adjacent it to be raised from the ground. When the wringing mechanism is used in connection with the bucket 7 thefoot 26 in proximity thereto is. caused to assume a vertical position and since the device atthis time tends to move in the direction of the foot, an effective resistance is encountered and the frame held stationary. When wringing the mop over the bucket 8, the foot 27 is caused to assume the same position that the foot 26 assumed when the bucket 7 was in use.

I claim:

A device of the class described comprisin a frame mounted upon wheels and ada ted to removably support a pair of hue ets thereon, arms pivoted to the opposite sides of said frame, a roller supported by said arms and arranged to overlie either of said buckets, a lever, a roller mounted on said lever and arranged to cooperate with said first roller, and connections between said lever and said arms whereby said second rolled may be moved to cooperate with said first roller from either of the opposite sides of- Y the latter.
