PNEUMATIC ACTION FOR PIPE-ORGANS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILLIs E. Answer, a citizen of the United States, resident oi Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Actions for Pipe-Organs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a pneumatic action which will have improved features of construction and operation.
A further object is to provide an action which will be simple and inexpensive to manufacture, easily accessible when in use and extremely durable. 7
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims. I

In the drawing, A represents the chest motor-diaphragm board, B the motor-dim phragm chamber, C an annular groove in which the motor member is loosely arranged. D is a buffer secured to the underside of the flexible motor-diaphragm member F which fits loosely within the groove 0 and. is free .to rise and fall therein with the variation in the wind pressure to open or close the chest valves E and E. The motor member is unattached or loose in the groove, so that it may slide therein and adapt itself to the varying positions of the valve without having abrupt bends or folds made therein and cause cracks or breaks where such bends are formed, as usually occurs in attached diaphragms and bellows neumatics.

J is a pipe hole or channel which leads from the space above the valve E to the pipe of the organ, not shown- K represents the pipe wind compartment, which communicates with the channel J when the valve E is open but is cut off therefrom when the valve is closed. L represents the bottom board of the chest, secured by suitable means to the side walls H and H. M represents the primary motor-diaphragm board arranged within the chamber K and having side walls 0 and O. N represents the primary motordiaphragm chamber formed within the part M. P represents a flexible motor-diaphragm member having fiber diks R and R. T represents the primary motor-diaphragm groove in which the primary motor-diaphragm is loosely mounted, with freedom of adjust ment on the walls of the chamber, the groove being cut in a solid block in the same manner as in the chest motor-diaphragm board. described above. S and S are threaded wires or extension attached to the motor members T and to the primary valves U and U, arranged to close or open the primary valve ports V and V. W represents the primary wind compartment. X is the primary action channel leading to the motor chamber N, and Y is the valve chamber in which the valves U and U are arranged. Q represents a suitable blocking which is interposed between the motor chest board and the top boardG.
In Fig 8 I have shown a modified construction of the primary motor-diaphragm board, which consists in making it in two sections, each having a portion of the primary motor diaphragm groove formed therein.
In the operation of this device, the valve U being opened, will admit pressure from the chamber W' through the channel I to the chamber B and close the valve E. When the valve U closes, the valve U will be opened, the channel I will then be open to the port V and the pressure may escape and the valve E will drop to an open position and establish communication between the chamber K and the channel J. This operation will I continue, the primary motor controlling the movement of the chest valves while the instrument is being played.
The motor-diaphragm members may be put in place easily and quickly by merely removing the top boards of the chambers K and WV, thereby exposing the valve ports through which the motor members may be folded and inserted.
In various ways the details of construction herein shown and described may be modified and still be within the scope of my invention. This case is a continuation'in part of application Serial No. 110,307, filed July 20, 1916, which application has now matured into Letters Patent No. 1,295,672, issued. February 25th, 1919.
I claim as my invention:
1. A pneumatic-action comprising a motordiaphragm chamber, a flexible motor-diaphragm member loosely fitting within said chamber, and movable bodily throughout its area in said chamber, a valve mounted on said motor-diaphragm member and a wind channel adjacent to said motor-diaphragm member and alternately closed and opened by the movement of said valve.
2. A pneumatic action comprising a chest motor-diaphragm board having a motor-diaphragm chamber provided with an annular groove having oppositely disposed beveled Walls, a fl :cible motor-diaphragm member loosely mounted within said chamber and having its edge resting on the walls of said groove, a valve carried by said motor-diaphragm member and a top board having a wind channel positioned to be opened and closed by the movement of said valve.
