resident of Detroit, Waynecounty, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inOil-Level Indicators for Motor-Vehicles, of which. the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to hydrocarbon moparticularly to liquid level gagesv tors, and therefor.
In the usual construction of a hydrocarbon motor power plant, wherein'the crank case is split horizontally in approximately the median plane of the crank shaft, forming an upper and lower section, it is'usual to have.
an oil gage actuating-mechanism arranged in the lower section of the crank case with an integral or non-detachable indicator stem arranged within the upper section of .the crank case, ata point considerably above where the sections are joined. With such constructions when it'is found desirable to remove the lowersection of the crank case from the upper section; it .is necessary to drop the former until the upper end of the indicator stem has been lowered to or below where the sections meet. This construction frequently results in causing considerable" difiicultyin dis-assembling the lower section of the crank case from the upper, because in many instances facilities do not permit the necessary'clearance for dropping down the lower crankcase section.
To obviate these, and other difiiculties, and to compensate for variations ofmanufacture, which would result in mis-alinement with the ordinary constructions, I have provided a gage actuating an indicator mechanism having portions mounted in each section-of the case and either abutting against" one another while having no other connection,
1 or having detachable connections which facilitate the dis-assembly of-one crank case section from another, without the extreme 'movements necessary for separating these sections in the usual construction:

Referring to the drawings, 10 illustrates the upper half of a motor crank case section in which a crankshaft 11 maybe mounted infsuitable bearings. Referring to Fig. 5, it is to be noted that the upper end of the stem 16 is provided with an interiorly threaded cup 25) and the lower end of the indicator stem .20 is exteriorly threaded for detachably connecting these parts.
