JAMES H. MOCOOL, 0F ELLSWORTH, KANSAS.
ATTACHMENT FOR POOL-TABLES.
Application filed November 9, 1920.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. MoCooL, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Ellsworth, in the county of Ellsworth and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Pool- Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to improvements in pool tables, and more par ticularly to a pool table which is provided with tracks common to the ball I'GCGIVIHg pockets whereby the balls may be delivered into racks at one end of the table.
The primary object is the provision of means for attaching the pockets to the table so that the balls will be positively directed to the tracks.
A further object is to produce a means for securing the pockets to the table and for supporting the rails which constitute the tracks.
A still further object is the production of a pool table attachment for this purpose which shall be of an extremely simple construction, cheaply manufactured, readily attached to any ordinary construction of pool tables, and thoroughly efficient for the pur pose for which it is devised.
The foregoing, and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts, such as is disclosed by the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure l is a fragmentary side elevation of a pool table illustrating the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of the pool table, looking toward the pocket.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 broadly indicates an ordinary construction of pool tables. This table is provided with the usual side and corner pockets. The top rail 2 of the table, at the cut-away portion thereof for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2, 1921. Serial No. 422.866.
the pockets has secured thereto a flat arched plate 3 disposed at the outer rounded portion of the poclret. The rounded plates 3 have their securing means at passing through the straight extensions at the ends thereof, and the said securing means also support on the table depending frames 5. Each of the frames is of a substantially rectangular formation and have their parallel side members connected to rods 6 which provide the rails of a track 7 for the playing balls.
The pocket is indicated by the numeral 8 and is in the nature of a member woven from leather strips, but the said pocket is open at both its top and bottom, the said top having its outer edge secured in the usual manner to the top rail 2 by the iron 3. The iron 3 also supports a fabric, such as a leather reinforcm member 9 at the top of the pocket.
TVith my construction, it will be seen that the pocket is not provided with a bottom.
that the ordinary pocket iron is employed,
and that the yokes effectively hold the pocket in spread condition as well as provide supports for the rails of the track. It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and advantages of the improvement to those skilled in the art to which such inventions relate, but it is thought necessary to add that I am entitled to make all such changes therefrom as fall within the'scope of what is claimed.
Having described the invention, I claim In combination with a pool table having an inclined track for directing the balls from the ball receiving pockets, of a woven pocket having both its top and bottom open, a flat arched member securing the top of the pocket to the top of the table, frames arranged in the pocket, connected to the table by the means which secures the arched member thereto, and said frames retaining the pocket in spread condition and supporting the track.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES H. McCOOL.
