To all whom/it may concern: J Be it known that I, JOHN ZIEBA, citize of the United States, residing at Scranton, in'the county-of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Scenery.

Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to toys, and more particularly to picture boxes in which vari-' ous pictures can be made to appear.

The object of this invention is to provide a cheap and easilyv manipulated device for moving a sheet of material on. which P- tures have been printed or otherwise 1mposed, across an opening for presenting a succession. of pictures to the observer.

further object of this invention is the provision of a picture box in which the picture holding sheet and the means for. operatin the same are readily removable for repalr, replacement and for the changing of the sheet.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of simple means for holdin and for. operating the rolls.

In the practical embodiment of my in-' vention, the box 10 has an opening 11 in the upper face thereof, one of the sides as 12 being removably held tothe remainder of said box by any suitable means as by screws 13. For grasplng the box to carry it from place to place, a handle 14: is suitably attached thereto. The picture sheet 15' 1s wound around rolls 16 and 17, which'have longitudinal slots 18 and '19 respectlvely therein, the end of said sheet being lnserted 'in said slots 18 and 19, after which said sheet is passed over auxiliary rolls 21 and 22, which are suitably mounted in the sides of the box near the'top thereof, the picture Specification of Letters Patent.

For making easy the manipulation of the rolls16 and 17, and at the same time allowingthe ready removal of said rolls from the box, the ends 20 of said rolls are made drical portion 27 adapted to rotate in side 12 extending therefrom, a second cylindrical portion of smaller diameter having prongs 28 struck outwardly therefrom.

Said prongsare spread apart (Fig. 3) and are adapted .for insertion through the openmg 25. For mounting the roll for rotation on cylindrical portion 27 of the knob, the prongs 28 are inserted into opening 25, the long axis of said opening being of suflicient length to allow the spread prongs to pass 7 through, and a quarter turn givento knob 26, after which said knob is pulled back to cause the sharp edges of said prongs to engage the inside of the cap 24 to secure said knob and cap together, in a manner that will be readily understood, so that rotation of knob 26 will cause rotation of the roll to which it is attached. By reversing the operation, knob 26 and the parts attached thereto may be readily withdrawn, r

and access to the inside of the box obtained by removing screws 13, after which the various rolls 16, 17, 21, and 22 may be readily removed, repaired or replaced as desired, or anew sheet ,15 attached in place.

What I claim is: p 1. In a toy of the character described, a

roll adapted for having a sheetrolled'there cap having an elongated opening therethrough, and means adapted to be inserted through said opening and engage the inner face of said cap whereby the said roll may be rotated. i I

2. In a toy of the character described, a

longitudinally slotted roll adapted to have a sheet rolled thereon, said roll being hol lowed at one end to present a recess, a cap having a radially elongated opening therein secured to said roll at the hollow end thereof, a knob having an. extension adapted for insertion in said recess, said extension having rearwardly projecting prongs adapted to engage the inner face of said cap.

In a toy'of the character described, a sheet holding roll, and means for manually rotating said roll comprising a knob, a cylindrical portion extending from said knob, a second cylindrical portion smaller in di ameter than said first mentional cylindrical portion extending from said first mentioned cylindrical portion, and prongs struck from and extending radially outwardly from said second cylindrical portion.

In a toy of the character described, a longitudinally slotted roll adapted to have a sheet rolled thereon and having a recess at one end, a cap for said roll having a radially elongated opening therein, means for rotating said roll comprising a knob, and prongs supported from said knob adapted for insertion through said elongated opening into said recess and for engagement with the inner face of said cap.
