To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. LOWERY, a citizen of the United States, residin r at Summit, in the county of Emanuel and tate' of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Automobile-Lock, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to automobile locks, and more particularly .to looks to be employed in connection with transmission or fly wheel casings, the present showing being especially designed for attachment to Ford transmission casings.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the comhination and arrangement of parts and in -the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it heing understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed. may he made within the scope of what claimed, withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention.

sion of the motor vehicle, together with the fly wheel of the motor which operates in close proximit to the transmission.
The device orming the subject matter of the present invention, includes a supporting plate 8 which is of a formation to correspond with the outline of the opening 6, the supporting plate being however, slightly larger than the opening to permit the same to be secured to the transmission casing at points adjacent to the opening, so that the plate will supplement the usual transmission cover plate.
One end of the supporting plate 8 is turned up as at 9 to provide a locking flange to receive the inturned end 10 of the false cover 11, the rear end of which is turned down as at l2, to embrace the lower end of the simporting plate to guard the same to prevent an instrument from being inserted under the lower end of the supporting plate, to pry or otherwise displace the supporting plate.

One end of the arm 26 extends at right angles tothe bod portion thereof, and is disposed in the s otted portion 27 of the controlling arm 28, which, is curved and provided with a slotted portion '29 adjacent to the outer end thereof, the slotted ortion 29 being provided to adcommodate t e pin 30, formed on'the locking arm 31, so t at the locking arm may automatically adjust itself to fly wheels operating at various dis tances from the locking arm 30. This looking arm 31 is pivoted to the body portion 21.
as by means of the pivot pin 32 positioned in a suitable opening formed in the body portion '21 and secured in the opening 'by means of the set screw 33, there being a head 34 provided on the lower end of the pin 32 to prevent displacement of the lockin arm 31. The inner extremity of the 100 'n arm 31 is provided with an opening 34' adllpted to accommodate the pin 32.
The outer or free end of the locking arm 31 is curved and, provided with teeth 35, owhieh in operation engage the fly wheel of eotthe motor to prevent rotary movement of the fly wheel, and it will be seen that since the fly wheel rotates clock-wise, a wedging action is set up between the fly wheel and the locking arm.
The pivoted latch member 16 has connection with the under surface of the support ing plate, through the medium of the pivot pin 36, one end of the latch member 16 extendin at right angles to the body portion thereof as at 37, the same being apertured to accommodate one end of the connecting link 38, the opposite end of which has connection with the controlling arm 28 so that movement of the controlling arm 28 causes a relative movement of the latch member 16 to affect the locking of the false cover 11. From an observation of Fig. 2 which shows the locking arm in an unlocked position, it will be seen that the right angled portion of the arm 26 carries one end of the arm 28 to a position to bring the inner end of the arm 28 laterally of a direct line through the right angled portion of arm 26, lower end of arm 20, and the pivot pin 30 so that the tension of the coiled spring 39 will tend to force a portion of the arm 28 into engagement with the extended portion 20' of the arm 20, to lock the arm 31 normallv, out of operation. A en it is desired to move the locking arm 31 into a locking position, a suitable key-is inserted to operatethe tumblers 24, whereupon the key is given an additional rotation to cause the arm 20 to more the arm 26 to move the right angled r-nel fl f out of the direct line with the pivot pin 30, whereupon the tension of the coiled spring 39 moves the locking arm 31 into engagement with the fly wheel of the motor, to prevent movement thereofr In view of the foregoing disclosure, a detail description of the'operation of the device is believed unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1-- 1. In combination with a motor fly wheel, a locking device including a body portion, a pivoted locking armhaving teeth formed on one of the edges thereof, means for normally holding the arm out of engagement with the fly wheel, said means including a controlling arm having an elongated opening formed adjacent to one end thereof, a pivot pin on the locking arm and operatin n the opening, whereby the locking arm wil automatically ad'ust itself to the fly wheel associated with t e lock, and means having connection with the pivoted locking arm for moving the locking arm'into its locked po sition.

In combination with a motor fly wheel and the casing housing the same, a supporting p'late secured to the casing, a false cover having connection with the supporting plate, a depending hook carried by the false cover, said hook adapted to extend through the supporting plate, a locking arm carried by the supporting plate and adapted to' be moved into engagement with the fly Wheel, means for moving the arm into on agement with the fly wheel, and a latch mem er operated automatically with the means for moving the arm, for coiiperatin with the depending hook to lock the fa se cover to the supporting plate.
