s to and has for its oh- 7 k """y device adapt- .vithin a brooding room for pre- "oungz' chicl cens from crowding in or A1; the sides of the room and thus be t'omino' smothered or unduly heated with the obvious disastrous results.
I will describe one form of device embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
in the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing a brooding room havingapplied thereto a plurality of devices embodyinn my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of one of the devices shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken oi Fig. 2.
Referring specifically to the drawings in which similar reference characters refer to similar parts, B designates generally a pair of brazrets. each of which is preferably formed ot' metal and incluces a vertical portion conne ted at its upper end to an inclined portion 16, a relatively short vertical portion 17 connected to the lower end oi the inclined portion, and test 15 and 17 formed on and disposed at the lower ends oi the vertical portions 15 and 1?, respectively. The in lined portions 16 are rigidly connected to each other by means of board D which secured thereto by means oi rivets 18. The board D onstitutes an in clined platform which terminates at its lower end at a point flush with the upper ends of the short vertical portions 17.
The portionsi'? are connected by a strip S which. is ofa width to provide a suitable space between its upper edge and the lower edge of the board D. l lithin this space is arranged a plurality of rollers it supported for rotary movement upon a common shaft T journaled in bearings 19 secured to the vertical portion 17.
In the applied position of the device within a brooding: room as shown in Fig. 1, it is secured to the iioor by means of the feet 15 Specification. of Letters Patent.
llatentcd July 12,
1523. Serial No. 393,518.
and 11 the device being arranged alo the sioes of the room or in spanning relation to the corners oi. the room. 1 preferably provide a urality of these devices for ea h mm and hrraugc su -h devices in the man- 1er shown in 1, although it is to he understood that they may be arranged in any manner so long; as the points along the sides and corners oi the room are protected.
in operation, the young chickens being prevented from gaining access to the walls and corners of the room, tend to roost in front of the strip S. Those chickens attemptingto climb over the ones roosting in front of the strip 3 light onto the board D and because of the inclination of the latter slide down onto the-rollers R where they are precipitated onto the floor of the brooding room. Other chicks, in (limbing over the roosting chickens, will light directly on the rollers R so that they too are precipitated onto the floo In either instance. the chickens are distributed uniformly in "front of each device so that they are prevented from congregating at any one point along any one device. This obviourl prevents crowding of the chickens and .1 rates any possibility oi the chickens smothering" each other and becoming unduly heated. The space at the opposite sides of the rollers allows oi' the tree circulation oi air to the chickens roosting in front oi? the strip S.
It is to be parti ularly noted that the distance from the lower edge of the strip 3 to the lower edge of the board D is such that with the chickens roosting directly in front of the strip S their heads are kept raised from the floor of the brooding room because of the inclination oi the board. thus preventing them from crowding with their heads on the floor.
Although I have herein shown and de' scribed only one form of device embodying my invention, it is to be understood. that various changes and modifications may be made herein without departing; from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and scone of the appended claims.
What 1 claim is:
1. A. poultry device of the character described comprisino' an inclined door, and a plurality of rollers mounted for rotary movement beneath the lower edge of the floor.
2. A poultry device of the character described comprising, a floor supported in inclined position with respect to the vertical, and a roller supported for rotary movement and disposed beneath and an spaced parallel relation to the lower edge of? the floor;
A poultry device of the character de scribed comprising, a pair of brackets, each of the brackets comprising a vertical portion, a second vertical portion relatively longer than the first vertical portion, an inclined portion connecting the two at their upper'edge, a floor connecting the inclined portions of said brackets, a strip connecting the first vertical portion to said brackets and spaced from the adjacent edge of said floor, a shaft journaled on the first vertical portion and disposed between said strip and lower edge of the floor spaced from the breeder floor, and a plurality of rollers supported ,for independent rotary movement and disposed beneath and in substantially spaced parallel relation to; the lower edge of the floor.
