Description
E. RHODES.
nnencnme some.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 24, 1919- 1,383,426. Patented July 5,1921.
E. R720 ales UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DRENGI-IING-BOT'ILE.
Application filed September 24, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH RHODES, a subject of the King'of England, residing at Huntington, in the county of Cabell and State of lVest Virginia, have invented cer tain. new and useful Improvements in Drenching-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in drenching bottles, and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with horses, cattle and other stock, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which can be readily and conveniently manipulated, and which can-be employed with convenience and facility in accomplishing the purpose intended.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character provided with a discharge nozzle constructed in a manner to assure the desired egress therethrough.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved drenching bottle whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section, illustrating a drenching bottle constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
' Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the discharging end of the nozzle, as herein embodied, and,
Fig. 3 is a view in top plan of the nozzle and coacting reducilig coupling, as herein included.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved drenching bottle comprises an elongated tubular member M curved longitudinally on a desired radius. an cad 0f he m m er M is t g t y Sealed Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 5, 1921. Serial N0. 325,986.
or closed by a plug P, preferably of hard wood, driven within said end portion of the member M. The outer end portion of the plug P is continued to form a handle or hand grasp H, whereby the device in its entirety may be conveniently and effectively manipulated, and particularly during the period when a dose is being administered to an animal. The outer extremity of the hand grasp or handle H is provided with an eye member E or the like to afford means whereby the device can be readily suspended from a nail or other supporting member when not in use.
The opposite end portion of the member M is provided with the external threads I, with which engages a reducing coupling R, and threaded or otherwise detachably engag-ed within the outer or reduced portion of the coupling C is a nozzle N. The nozzle N has its outer end portion gradually reduced and in a manner whereby the discharge opening thereof is substantially cliptical in form with its major axis preferably substantially at right angles to the radius of the member M.
The nozzle N can be removed or applied with convenience and facility whereby the member M can have readily applied therein the liquid, medicated or otherwise, with which it is desired to dose an animal. The particular formation of the nozzle N materially facilitates the dosing of the animal while the configuration of the member M and the particular location of the hand grasp or handle H materially facilitates the desired manipulation of the bottle.
The parts of my improved bottle, with the exception of the hand grasp or handle H, are preferably formed of metaL'and it is to be particularly noted that in its structure my improved device comprises but four parts, which may be readily assembled, and which can also be easily replaced if the necessities of practice should so require.
It will also be obvious that my ilnproved device when assembled, is substantially rigid, and which in itself, is of extfeme importance during the use of the bott e.
From the foregoing description, it is though to be obvious that a drenching bottle constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my V invention is susceptible modification Without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
the same at any point I claim:
rAs an article of manufacture, a drenching bottle comprising an arcuate tubular member, the diameter of said memberbeing longitudinally thereof some change and of, whereby the contents of said member may pass unrestrictedly therethrough, a coupling 15 'threadedion one end of said tubular memsaid I ber, a nozzle carried by said coupling, nozzle being slightly smaller than the tubular member, and a plug for closing the other end ofthe tubular member, in continuity with said arcuate tubular member. r
In testimony whereof I hereunto ELlIlX my signature.
