UNITED STATES GEORGE W. MCAD, OF SOLDIER, IOWA.
TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 28, 1921.
Application filed January 14, 1919. Serial No. 271,029.
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Moen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Soldier, in the county of Monona and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tools of that class used by plasterers for smoothing the walls and ceilings of a room, and usually designated as a darby. The principal object of the invention is to provide the edges of the tool with strips of metal to provide a sharp edge on the tool to increase the efficiency of the tool.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an end view.
As shown in these vie-ws, the tool consists of a fiat strip l, preferably made of wood, and having secured to one face thereof a substantially cylindrical handle 2 and a block 3 having its upper part inclined in op-.
posite directions, as shown. These inclined edges are provided with the recesses 4i to provide finger holds. As shown, the handle 2 is located adjacent one end of the strip while the block 3 is adjacent the other end. A metal strip 5 is secured to each side edge of the strip l, said metal strips being of the same width as the thickness of the board. These Strips are secured to the board by rivets, screws or the like, passing through holes formed in the strips. The ends of the board are provided with the recesses 6 at the edges thereof, and the ends of the metal strips are bent at right angles and extend into said recesses.` These ends of the metal strips are secured in the recesses by screws or the like.i The recesses are made of the same thickness and depth as the thickness of the metal strips, so that the upper faces of the turned in ends of the metal strips are flush with the ends of the board.
In this way a sharp edge is provided for each side of the tool which will increase the effectiveness of said tool and will prevent the same from being dented or broken.V
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
TvVhat I claim is A tool of the class described comprising a fiat strip constructed of wood, a cylindrical handle being secured to one face thereof, a block arranged on the opposite end of said flat strip and having its upper face having ends inclined in opposite directions, the edges at the inclined ends having recesses to provide finger holds, a metallic strip being secured to each side edge of said flat strip and the former being of the same width' as the thickness of the board, means Vfor securing said strips to the fiat strip, the
ends of said tool having recesses formed therein at the edges thereof, the ends of said metallic strip being bent at right angles and extending into said recesses, and means for securing said strips in the recesses.
In testimony whereof I aliiX my signature.
GEORGE w. Morin.
