To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL G. l VATROUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F lushing-Valves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to what are known as slow closing or flushing valves for water closets, etc, and the object thereof is to provide such a structure with a simple and eflicient shutoff valve contained within the structure itself.

My invention may be embodied in flushing valves of somewhat different construction than that herein shown, but for the purposes of a clear and definite disclosure of my invention I have embodied it in the particular structure illustrated.
Referring to the drawing, the flushing valve casing is formed in two parts or sections, an upper section 1 and a lower section 2, which are secured together at their meeting marginal flanges, as by bolts (not shown) these two sections clamping between them at such flanges a flexible diaphragm 3 to which is operatively connected the main or controlling valve 4. This diaphragm is preferably weighted in suitable manner as by the weight 3.
The casing is provided with an inlet pipe connection 5 and an outlet pipe connection 6. The interior of the lower section of the casing is divided by the partition 7 into an inlet chamber 8 and a discharge chamber 9, the latter being open at all times to the discharge connection 6. Within the discharge chamber is arranged the main or controlling valve l which operates in the port 7 in the partition and controls the supply of the flushing water from the inlet co11nect1on 5 and inlet chamber 8, and through the discharge chamber 9 and discharge connection 6.
In the lower section of the casing structure and within the discharge chamber, there is formed a horizontal cylindrical chamber 10 by means of the cylindrical casing 11 extending transversely of such discharge chamber 9 and axial of the inlet opening, and opening at one end to the outside of the sect1on 2 and at its inner end to the inlet connection 6. The shutotl valve which is located and operates within this transverse chamber 10 comprises a valve proper 12 havng a stem 13 screw-threaded intermediate its length to fit in corresponding screw threads in one end of the bore 10. In the outer end of this stem is an angular socket 13 adapted to receive a socket wrench or other similar tool for rotating the valve and valve stem. A plug 14 screws into the outer end of the chamber 10 for closing the same. The valve is adapted to seat upon a seat 15, here shown as formed at the inner end of the discharge pipe section 6.
The shutoff valve is shown in the drawing in its open position. When it is desired to shut off the water to the closet the plug lt is removed and a wrench applied to the valve stem 13 for rotating it in the proper direction to advance the valve 12 and seat it upon the seat 15.
In this manner and by these means I provide a very simple and compact arrangement or. flushing valve and shut-oil valve, one which is moreover self-contained in the structure of the flushing valve itself. 7
I claim:
1. In a flushing valve, the combination of a casing having a laterally opening inlet, a downwardly opening outlet, and internal walls dividing the casing interior into inlet and outlet chambers communicating through a valved orifice, an axially movable valve for the inlet opening within the inlet chamber and having a stem extending through a wall of said inlet chamber and wholly within the confines of the casing, said casing ha ving an opening for giving access to said stem, and a closure for said opening.
2. In a flushing valve, a casing having an inlet chamber provided with an inlet opening. an outlet chamber provided with an outlet opening, a valved orifice between these chambers, and a transverse tubular chamber traversing the outlet chamber and opening to the interior of the casing and to the inlet chamber in axial register with the inlet opening, a valve for said inlet opening having an operating stem extending into said tubular chamber, and a closure for the outer end of said tubular chamber.
